pops out the exhaust.. as in backfires?

Tapping, as in pistons hitting valves or pinging?

I'm going to go for the longshot into left field and say the time has jumped a tooth.

Let's see if I'm right

check valve clearance....maybe getting to much fuel in their to...to rich maybe...i've run a 1.5 with a ZC PM7 ecu before...never got any popping sounds...check valve clearance and your timing.
I had a D15B on my EG civic it wasn't vtec though it was a D15b2 DPFI...

Re:92 civic with d15b sounds like death

sorry its taken me so long to reply work sucks

the valves are not out of adjustment the timing is in check done it by ear and by a timing light as far as running rich i blew 35$ and bought an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and messed with the fuel pressure its not it either... i dont know mabey the engine is just ----...

and for the one not understanding the JDM d15b its a Single over head cam VTEC that if tuned correctly can run with the DOHC's

if it helps i have the true ZC d15B meaning it has 3 stage VTEC ""2 vtec silinoid things on the head""

ignition timing, spark plugs, cap, rotor. Basic tune up in order. Sould fix the problem. Check engine lights cant do all it for you.

Re:92 civic with d15b sounds like death

i dont think u can run a p28 on a 3 stage vtec
theres only 1 vtec point on that ecu and u need 2
get the correct obd2 ecu

poping. ehh..

did you use the Right Spark plugs on the engine.

the D15b Vtec motor is not the same. runs diffrent heat range plug. Same as B20Z/B20B plugs

I have d15b. i noticed that first off.
next im will be running p28 to but i have mine chipped..
natrualy the d15b is made to run to 8000rpm and your ecu cuts at 76000rpm (p28)

check your exhuast system for Air leaks this cuase that problem as well
check exhuast header dounut, crush rings in the tail section

also you may be burning oil a small amount but enough to cause that... my old motor did that

check Timing belt timing.
check dizzy timing.
check spark plugs for fouling ( souty, wet, oily ? )

get back on this i like to know.. what you found?
