90 integra auto trans shift dies

When backing up and shifting to drive, the car dies sometimes and when it doesnt, it is idling so low that it might as well die. I read up on the IACV sticky and im going to try that today. The idle is all wierd on it.

Any ideas with the tranny or could it all be related?

UPDATE:

I just started it now and from a cold start, it starts REALLY rattling around and the idle is VERY low but about 1 minute after the car starts, the Check Engine Light comes on and it idles out to normal. I havent driven it yet today but i can bet that when i shift it it will start to die and might just die.

I shut the car off and warm-started it and the idle was around 100-200. Again check engine light came on after about 3 minutes this time and it ilded out to normal. Normal being around 1000 which is fine for me.

Any ideas?

find out what code the ecu is throwing, it'll be a start to easier diagnosis.

i'd say either a vacumm leak or a bad cold idle sensor.

UPDATE again! :)

taking everything apart and cleaning. Everything is caked with crap. Its probably oil. i hope its not crap.

anyway, can i remove tyhe FIV all together? or do i have to leave it on and bypass it with the coolant lines? It doesnt look like i an remove it altogether. Ther are two rather large holes going into the intake mani that Im sure cant be left open.

I also cleaned out the IACV. The screen was almost completely caked over.

Let me know about the FIV. the reason im asking is that i read in the IACV sticky about removing the FIX altogether cause it really doesnt do much. Yes im one of those who actually read the stickies before posting! :)

Thanks for the help. Ill run the code and let you know.

Done!

Always check the codes first. It was throwing a 5 which is MAP sensor. Checked it out and the vac line wasnt even plugged in. AFTER i got done cleaning everything!! Plugged it back in and turned down the idle and it runs like a champ!!

Thanks!
