90-01 LS 5th gear into a 92-93 GSR tranny

How is this done? anyone know of a step by step write up on this? I will be buying a 92-93 GSR tranny to replace my dying ls tranny and I heard the gsr tranny is closer ratio than a B16 tranny. Would love to have the fifth gear to help with cruising rpm/fuel economy. Thanks for the help guys O0

btw: anyone got a solid, no grind 92-93 gsr tranny fs?

the b16 trans is the shortest. the GSR is in between an LS and B16 trans

I think there's a bit of difference between USDM 90-91 and 92+ gearboxes - whether or not the later ones are hydro. JDM 89-91 cable gearboxes share some similarities with 90-91 LS, but are kinda wierd about interchange.

JDM and small spline 90-91 LS have aluminum shift forks from the D-series. Not interchangeable with later steel forked boxes, unless you modify the case to fit them and even then I can't assure you they line up perfectly with the gearsets.

92-93 GSR is like a hydro B16/LS box except with cable provision. Don't quote me, but most stuff is interchangeable. I think Bone would know, you can ask him :-*

NOW. Where is my wang holding?

I have heard the 92-93 gsr is the same as the later hydro tranny only is a cable. I'm actually going to try to requisition (sp) one and see just how short the 5th gear is befor eI do anythign else. I may just buy a trashed ls hydro and get it's 5th (assuming the gears are good).

Original plan was to send this tranny to gearspeed for a rebuild or just buy a type2 tranny from them, but I'm sick of this slow ass acceleration. >:D

I'll hold your wang lata joey. :D

Call Atlee at 828 628-6424. He should be home after 5, has early evenings due to early work mornings so I wouldn't call past 9:30 or so. Tell him, "HEY MAN, you don't know me but Joseph said I should call up your unevolved Caveman ass and ask about the gearing of your YS1." Don't forget to tell him I've been photoshopping pictures of his face to naked women and posting them to the interweb.

He currently has a B18B with the 92-93 GSR YS1 gearbox, he can probably give you good rpm/gear advice.

You want acceleration? Go get yourself a JDM S1/J1 tranny and have fun. It makes for a fun stoplight racer,so much that you'll want to yell VTEC out the window. You will be cruising at around 4500 rpm in 5th @ 70mph tho. I had a JDM S1 on my stock boosted LS@ 8psi for a while. Crazyed acceleration till about 115 when you run out of RPM's(if you're stock top-end).
