8lb flywheel to light for hi boost?
 

Is a 8 pound flywheel to light for high boost? looking at my clutch flywheel options, im looking into the XTD Stage 3 clutch with 8lb flywheel

I get asked this question a lot, the basic idea is this, the lighter you go, the less rotational mass on the engine and it will rev up quicker. It also is a lot more touchy, and revs drop quicker just as they go up quicker. Aluminum has also had its problems and is known to warp under heavy race conditions with a powerful clutch kit and motor. However, if you want some quicker spool times and want to get more performance out of the car, go with the 8 lb wheel.

Cool, thanks for the info, do you think the stage 3 will me on for 300-350 horsepower or should i go stage 4, i think it says the stage 3 will be good to 330 so i should be cool

Lightest as possible man, I've still yet been able to find another 5.5lb flywheel like I used on my old built ZC. That thing was so freaking light. The rpms came on very quick ;)

That 5.5lb wheel must have been sick, i wish i could have seen it.

it may spool down quicker, but when ur at the track or just driving hard in general, your shifting fast and arent goin gto lose that much compared to a heavier flywheel unless you are granny drivin around town. so, compared to a heavier flywheel, your gonna rev faster and shouldnt lose much rpm s if you just shift quickly

I thought lightest possible was a bad idea

I went with a steel 11lb from LSD Mike

I read many times that if you go to light, when your on it and in full boost, when you shift, obviously your rpms drop and you fall out of boost, this doesnt happen?

Ive had no experience in a boosted car so I dunno, learning myself, just what Ive read many times

though hp is alwayse a factor in any build, when looking at your clutch it's more important to look into the torque holding capacity. Since torque=twisting force, that's more important in the case of a clutch.
