3 angle valve job?
 

what does a 3 angle valve job consist of? also, i read on beau's turbo'd b16, he used a drag manifold. are those recomended, or crap like jeff says?

3 angle valve job, is where they remove all the valves and the machinest cuts the valve & seat 3 angles. These are what come from the factory. But over time the seats dont seal as good as they use to. I highly recommend doing a valve grind if you remove the head over 100k miles.

The drag manifold probably can work fine, lots of people use them, but Beau modified his drag manifold which made it suck ass, It postioned the turbo in a shitty spot for a 4g civic, so it had to be done. I think a tubular manifold would be the better way to go.

thanks for the info. is the vavle job something i can do at home, or would you recommend taking it to a machine shop?

take it to a good machine shop. i work in a machine shop and have gotten some really awesome valve jobs out of our equiptment. it is possible to grind the valve seats at home, but a real guide and seat machine is so much better. if the wear and pitting on the valves and seats is minimal you can get rid of it just by lapping the valves. this you could do yourself cheaply, but if a real repair is needed take it to a shop. if you decide to lap the valves make sure you put each valve into the seat it was lapped with, if you mix them up they might not seal, and they will have a shorter service life.

Jeff does your shop do 3-angle valve jobs? If so, about how do you charge? (or how much might someone else charge) How about you, Teal Terror? any price quote for all 16 valves? I have no idea what a job like that might cost me, so I am just looking for a ballpark figure. Do people usually take in the whole head, and let the machinist take the valves out and work on them, and then swap them back in? Or is that too much extra labor? I don't know if I'd trust myself to be messing with the valves by myself with all that VTEC stuff in there.

No, we send our heads out to get valve grinds.. They range from 175-250

You will need to strip the head bare.. all the sensors and stuff like that off, also need to remove the cams. Machine shops can take the valves/springs out, and reassemble for you.

i'br done a valve grind on a set of 350 heads and i think i fucked them up. you have to turn the things by hand and its hard to tell if you're doing it right lol. it takes a quite a while doing them by hand
