1st gen ZC question

I have a 1st gen ZC motor as Jeff told me. The thing i really need help on is a tranny.

What trannys will bolt up and work if i can't get a hold of the ZC one?
- Jeff said a "L3" tranny from 88-91 will work. But my tranny out of my 91 Civic Si is a "SL3" does it have to be just say "L3" on it? Could someone clear this question up telling me what a "L3" tranny is and what it comes out of and if it bolts up to a 1st gen ZC?

What other parts will i need to put these trannys in(ZC, L3)? Ex: Drive shafts, hubs, flywheel, ect.

Last question is it impossible to make the 1st gen ZC motor and tranny fit into a 1991 Honda Civic Si, im willin to make the motor mounts.

I would greatly appericate it if anyone can answer these questions.

a 1st gen ZC. is it stamped ZC where the engine code should be? if so.. your Si tranny will bolt right up. as well as the mounts.

That site had nothing to do with 1st gen ZC's nor did it talk anything about "L3" tannys. But thanks.

Re:1st gen ZC question

If you are referring to a 1st gen brown top ZC engine there is only one kind and it is basically a beefed up d16a1(86-87 intergra engine).

AFAIK the only tranny that would work with that engine is one from a 86-89 integra. Who knows maybe you can get some of the bolts to line up from other d-series trannies and make it work.

You really don't want a ZC tranny unless you are swapping gears. The ZC tranny has very short gears so unless you drive alot in the city there is no need to get this tranny and opt for the 86-89 teg tranny instead.

Re:1st gen ZC question

I have a 86 teg tranny mated up to my vac advance brown top 1G ZC. Any first gen teg tranny will work. Supposedly there is a 5th gear swap for lower highway miles with the 86-89 accords, but I've yet to try or verify this.

Ignore the CRX people that tell you L3 trannies work. You will have to do a lot of drilling and tapping IF you can make it work at all.

No, you asked "What tranny fits my ZC in my Crx? I cant get it to bolt up", my response was "any L3 tranny 88-91 cable"

Then we figured out your engine is a 1g ZC, thus the 86-89 bell housing config, and I told you that you were fucked. And I also told you that your will need to fabricate mounts for this engine, as well as either tap the bolts for the l3 tranny, or use the 86-89 tranny with custom mounts. Kevin @ quickhonda.net ran into this, read his write up and see with what he came out with. Its not to late, you can just pull the engine and get the correct one.
