1g rex swap

got a 1g rex i picked up thats mint. 86 crx si. i want to put a jdm b16 in it but the mounts and ---- are costly.can i use my obd0-obd1 conversion on this car from my 89 crx si? need to figure out what wiring needs to be done for this swap. any info will help. also i dont really want to but the hasport mounts. does anyone else make these mount for a b series?

Re: 1g rex swap

Put a B18A/B1 in it, cheaper on your part than buying a 'jdrm b16', plus more torque, lots of aftermarket with it, many options, and still fast in a CRX.

sorry only hasport. Wanna play gotta pay. You could always make custom mounts but unless you have good fab skills your goin the hasport route

You can swap a D16a1 motor from a 86-87 Integra. 1.6L DOHC with 118HP. You can get these motors cheap and with a turbo that CRX will be FAST. :y

Re: 1g rex swap

t here actually are cheap ebay mount kits made by a bunch of diffrent companys. i bought a cheap b series mount kit for my 91 crx for 150 bucks shipped. then bought the shift linkage off a old junked 91 integra. cut bout an inch a 3/4 off in the middle. then welded it back together. it worked jus fine. and the swap costed me maybe about 900 bucks. but it was the obd0 b18a1. so it was pretty damn easy and its pretty damn fast though. well worth it... but after awhile if you do any upgrades hasport does make some of the bes tmounts for a b.h.or k series swap into any civics. along with shift linkages for the b series swap into civics. but i'd say dont get a b16. just get a b18b. or b18a. or something and turbo it. its plenty fast for a daily driver

You can find cheap mount kits for 88-91 Civic/CRX. They are 2gen cars. He has a 86CRX, thats a 1st gen(84-87). You can't use the 2nd gen mounts to put a B-series motor into a 1st gen car ::)

yeah im in the process of getting a d16z6 into myu 85 cx si. check out redpepperracing.com lots of info but you gotta so lots of searching. and basically if you cant fab dont try this swap. and if thats the case and you have to do it the old teg swap like someone said its plug and play if youo got all of the parts

i want a b16 if i can get it for under a $1000. other than that my 2nd choice would be a b18a. its gonna be turbo no matter what. dont realy want a zc. thanks for the info.

Re: 1g rex swap

b motors in first gen crx's are a tight fit... the turbo would sit to far forward for an intercooler, unless you use the 86 87 si bumpers. which is still a tight fit.

go to redpepper and search ultimatecrx. i think that's the name, bryman is the owner, that car had crazy space issues and it was a b16a with turbo.

still that's a bunch of power.

i have a dohc first gen crx converted to obd0 and running turbo edit. that car is crazy. super light.... go easy, spend your money on building a zc, or your turbo kit. these cars scream.

The mount kit, axles and wiring will cost you $1000. Then you still need to find a motor, tranny and ECU. A B-series swap will cost you alot more than you think.

Your best bet is to go to redpepper. Im in the middle of a b20 swap in an 86 si hatch now. we have the hasport mounts, but as far as I know they arent being made anymore.. or wait it might be the custom shift linkage your gunna need.

Re: 1g rex swap

you can sometimes find the swap parts on g1teg.org, or on redpepperracing.com. sometimes people even make knockoffs of the hasport ones. im happy with my 89 d16a1 turbo right now...maybe ill switch into a b series eventually. it will just take a lot of money (axles, mounts, linkage)..but the wiring will be plug and play mostly

also, my buddy is selling a couple b16's. full motors..and i think one has a tranny. i can find out how much $$...but we mostly want local pickup

Re: 1g rex swap

ya. where are you located? this sound like a pain in the ass. maybee i will do the d16 swap.my uncle has a 89 teg and im gonna buy it for $200. thats everything i need and the rear brake swap to. sweet

staticchmbr 12-27-2005 02:41 PM

Re: 1g rex swap

yea, buy the teg..and swap EVERYTHING over..wish i could have gotten one for $200...i'd have 4 disk brakes by now.

No, you don't.

I've never met Bryman, but I've talked to a few of his friends who helped him lay that B16 in the car, before it was turbo'd. It is an unpleasant experience.

If you ever see one of those cars B-swapped, run your finger between the firewall and the IM plenum. Haha.

I had an 86 CRX Si, 87 D16A1 (112 hp, 118 was 88-89) with 88 gearbox. I loved the damn thing. They are a lot nicer than the later CRX's. Wish I had it back. :'(

Re: 1g rex swap

all this talk is changing my mind. not cause im not capable of doin this swap but its moore less a time thing.

Tom-Guy 12-28-2005 09:41 PM

Re: 1g rex swap

Realistically, add three to four hours to a normal engine swap. I've had some experiences with the new HASport race (80 or 88A? durometer) mounts, where it takes about an hour of prying and finesse to get a B-series laid into an ED chassis, just the three mounts... I figure it's a little harder than that.

Keep in mind you have zero room for sticking interesting things in the engine compartment, once the B-series goes in. The time factor is going to come in when you try to turbo it, and making one-off bits to fit where there is no space. HX35 in a B-swapped ED is tight, in and older model it's a nightmare.
