1996 Civic DX

1996 civc dx, what engine do I have, and could I use the ECU from another car to give it a lil' more power????

Re:1996 Civic DX

engine = D15B7 = about 107 hp
ECU swap = none. just dropping in another ECU doesn't help, you need better motor if you want noticeable power. your best bet, but a Z6 or Y8 head, drop it on your block, THEN get a Z6 or Y8 ecu, fabricate a few oil lines, and then you'll have VTEC and a noticeable power gain. Or, you could just buy one of those shitty chips off ebay and ---- your ---- up, it's up to you.

;D

its a D16y7 with a s20 tranny and a P2z ECU (most likly there was several ecus for this motor). 1.6 L with 107 HP and i think 102 ftlb tq.

Re:1996 Civic DX

yup 96-2000 Dx's are D16Y7's
Read this site learn how to turbo it. you can safely add 60hp daily driven with a properly setup turbo kit. By properly setup I mean intercooled and any fuel management better than an FMU setup. It's the same engine I have! for now, i just bought an H22 from BlownVtec. oh well.

d16y7=v8 killa...step 1: run a shitload of boost, step 2: nod as you pass, its only common courtesy

My Y7 blew up fast as hell, don't assume their bullet proof.

Good for boosting if you watch your management, but keep in mind Honda didn't go to alot of trouble to make that motor more durable or even as resilient as the SOHC VTECs.

Re:1996 Civic DX

for about 300bux u could get a Civic EX Head and ECU (96-2000) and add about 20 Hp with those and a weekend. If you are cabable. if not.. add another 200 easy for a shop to do it.
