1991 civic pulley nightmares
Anyone have any tips for removing the crank pulley bolt? Mind you, this isn`t the newer style crank pulley where the 6 point tool plugs into, but the "older" style with the 8 small holes in it. A pos D15b2.
I have the honda tool: 07JAB-0010100 with the handle which supposedly let`s you hold the crank pulley stationary while you turn the 17mm bolt with a breaker bar. I guess after 16 years it seems to be seized into place, I simply wanted to remove it to replace the timing belt. Is there any way I can remove this without resorting to an acetylene torch and impact?? |
Re: 1991 civic pulley nightmares
to hold the engine still you can string some nylon rope down through a spark plug hole. and you very well may need an impact and or a big ass breaker bar.

I've had to resort to using some extreme breaker bars to remove them. If you have the holder tool, it shouldn't be hard at all to break it loose it you have at least about 6 ft of pipe to slip over the ratchet.

if the motor is out of the car, breaker bar on the nut at about 9-10 o clock, 2x4 or 4x4 approximately 3-4 feet long... swing, bolt free...
if its not out of the car, white lithium spray grease..... impact gun :) |

I don`t think I melted the oil pump seal, BUT I did beat the hell out of the crank pulley bolt with the impact gun...do you think this will do damage to crank or main bearings? |
