1983 civic hatchback

Hello HMT...

I just bought a daily beater a 1983 Honda Civic hatchback S. 1500cc motor with a 5 speed
manual tranny.

Does anybody here know if the single cam D15 or even the D16 can fit in these cars?

I am not looking for a record holding power, but just looking for something "peppier" around
town and more reliable than the carburated setup.

Thanks

its been done. but its not any sort of bolt-in setup.

from what I've seen its a tight fit as well.

Unless your a fabricator cost to do it would not be worth it imo. Your best bet if the motor is in good running condition is to maybe get an upgraded carb and a good flowin exhaust. Really not much support for that car out there

dang, I was hoping those would be feasable.

But I did hear the Honda City Turbo engine fits, but
the problem is finding one.... ???

I just found out that the earlier Accord and Prelude motors
will bolt right in without any modifications.

I guess they have larger motors than the civic...so I might
scour the junkyard tomorrow.

Found out and I guess it has been done that
a motor from a 79-83 Accord/Prelude will bolt in
without any modifications.

The motor I have right now is a 1.5 liter Keihlin carburated setup...
I think the Prelude/Accord engines has a 1.8 dual carb setup.... <----- I may be wrong on the dual carb setup though.

But if anybody here has any welding skills that can do a
Roll bar for me that would be nice...of course i will pay for the services. ;D
