radiator or fan is my guess...

 

yes. the impeller is pressed onto the shaft in most cases. if it works it's way loose from heat cycling or whatever, the shaft would still spin properly and support the timing belt, but the pump would produce little to no flow.
that kind of pump failure is pretty rare it seems, so i would bet on a stuck thermostat, clogged radiator or fan that isn't turning on. i've seen an old leaking radiator cap cause overheating before, so try that if all the common sense stuff fails.

 

Does that thing have dual exhaust?

 

1 tailpipe per 2 cylinders often causes overheating.

i bet you popped a headgasket. let it sit and idle in your driveway, watch the temp closely and look to see if your overflow is filling up past the max mark. chances are it will overflow the rest of the way if you let it continue to overheat. if thats the case...headgasket.

 

i'm leaning twards the radiator.

the fan is always on.(it turns on when i hit the key)
thermostat is brand new and was tested before i installed it.
radiator cap is new.
the exhaust is a flowmaster "1 in 2 out" (not a true dual)

here's the thing tho..... after i let it idle in the driveway for 30 minutes, it never overheated, but the top hose was warm and the bottom was cold. but both were hard as hell (pressureized). then i unplugged the fan and the bottom hose got warm.

trial and error ---- now. gonna go get a radiator this morning and try that

ok, so i'm almost 100% sure it's fixed... (50 mile test drive)

as i said before, i had the fan running constantly when the IGN was on. now, i realized something.... the top hose was hot and the bottom was cold. aparently the fan was cooling the radiator at such a rate, as the bottom hose was not warm enought to allow the thermostat to open.

i returned the radiator fan to original operating status (letting the ecu turn on the fan), and all seems fine once again.

i really dont know what triggered the mishap in the first place, but i'm glad to be driving my car again.
