Even the motor in the NA eclipse from 95-99 is a dodge motor not Mitsu. It's a neon with an Eclipse Body kit :P
The new 2.4 in the Stratus and Avenger is a Mitsubishi but there is no relationship between these motors. except the displacement.
I can't understand where getting that they handle like crap? The slalom is just slightly slower than the Viper and only the S2000 beats it in the honda line. That according to R&T. They do sorta feel like they are tipping when braking in a sharp turn but the numbers don't lie.
2004's have an LSD

Re:Your opinion on the SRT-4
i dont know if wrx's handle like *** because i've never personally driven one, but an evo handles pretty damn well in my book. =)
I would just get the wrx because of the AWD and having boost and AWD is a plus plus in my book even though the NEON is probably the better bang for the buck type of a car. Besides, its still a fucken neon... I just dont like they way they feel inside I guess... If I had a choice I'd get the EVO or STi over the regular WRX but its alot more money...
Dont listen to us, just drive them both and make sure you go out to places where you can rape the bitches and then decide on your own. make sure you post up pics after you've done the deed.

Mazda has been using Ford motors for quite a few years - I'm pretty sure the probe and 626 use a MAzda 4cyl. unless it is a V-6 (that is the 3.0 l motor that is in the taurus. ranger, etc.)
I have driven a few of them - Personaly I wouldn't buy one nor would I spend over $15,000 for a car. For now I'm into the low budget thing. But I can understand getting tired of the breakdowns ETC. $20,000 is $20,000 there are people out there that are putting out close to 300 WHP with Stock internals on a 1st gen Neon.
I have a 99 neon R/T - I get no respect - most people hate it - it's only a neon - blah blah blah - There is something cool about being the underdog!
I just bought a 1985 Dodge Shelby charger 148 HP and 178tq of Turbocharged Madness. the car is only 2200lbs though. Still lots of upgrades available! 7psi now soon to be 18psi!
$400 bucks! I couldn't pass up a factory turbo car for $400

"The Neon, Dodge Avenger, and Chrysler Sebring feature (as base engine on the Avenger/Sebring and optional engine on the Neon through 1999) a new Chrysler-designed double overhead camshaft (DOHC) four-cylinder engine that is compact and light weight. Displacement is 1996 cm(cubed) (121.8 in(cubed)). "
"Another neat bit about the engine.. it's one of the first engines that's produced in America to be used in a Japanese vehicle [in DOHC form]." This from the SOHC page.
Thought this was interesting too.
"As for the engine.. stock it can hold about 330hp at the crank.. the rods start to stretch at this point.. with rod and piston replacement.. some people are getting 600+hp out of the engine.. stock head (no porting) stock cams.. stock crank, mls head gasket... pretty impressive if you ask me"

Re:Your opinion on the SRT-4
That info is correct, however the 420a never came in a neon period. All that info you have provided is reguarding the S4RE, S4RE Magnum, D4RE.
Neon 4cyls and Mitsu Eclipse 95-99 engines are NOT the same,
