your input on GLAMIS

i'm spending Thanksgiving camping in glamis with my breezie and kid and some friends and their families. I've never been before and i bet i'm going to be the only asian there. but anyways, i'm bringing my FJ, and my lady's little brother's dirt bike, and some lobster for thanksgiving feast. i'm hella excited cause i get to go off roading in some sand but i'm a NEWB to the whole "glamis" scene so i dont know wtf to expect besides a bunch of sand in the crack of my ass.

anybody have any suggestions in terms of necessities?

by the time i get back, i'll bet i'll be a cockasian.

I love Glamis. I'll be making frequent trips very soon. What to expect? Expect a ---- load of people to be everywhere. Expect to be covered in sand the entire time. It's never quiet, depending on where you're camped so be prepared to get woken up several times during the night. I always camp at the washes, just as you turn across the railroad tracks. It's dusty as ---- most of the time, especially when people are crowding in so you might want to choose a wash farther down. It makes it easier to find your way back to camp at the washes because all you have to look for is the train tracks and once you hit them you just look for whatever number your wash is(they are all numbered). The farther you go, the quieter it gets. BTW, I hate you for going there. I'm soooo ready for a Glamis trip. :y

you must hate me even more since i'm noob status and dont necessarily have the appreciation for such a trip as you do. but anyways, we're at wash 11. is that coo?

Re: your input on GLAMIS

I usually stay around wash 9 for some reason...seems easier to take off from and find for some reason. Don't forget to watch the sand drags. I'm not sure what time they're starting anymore, but if you ask around at the store or around camp I'm sure someone will tell you. Have fun and be safe. There are alot of stupid fuckers out there not paying attention to where they're going. :l

Re: your input on GLAMIS

Im sorry but glamis is garbage! Over crowded, in every sense. Its a place for show offs to take their $30k banshee's and $100k sand rails, make a couple passes, then sit by their quads and rails and act like hardasses, then wait till it gets dark, get ---- faced then haul ass around. Ive been to glamis 3 times. every time I was there someone died or was critically injured by a drunk. Not my cup-o-tea. Im guessing since your going to glamis its cause you live in SoCal. If youre that hopped up to play in sand go to Pismo, or one of the other areas, you'll have more fun. Also your FJ will do just fine at glamis. the sand there is much more firm than say the sand in mexico, or in the oregon dunes, just make sure you air your tires down. Glamis im down around 15psi, the softer stuff i'll go down to 10psi(be careful and watch your bead), and if im using my beadlocks have gone down to 5psi. Also, when driving in the sand the key is to get moving without spinning your tires. if the sand is real soft, spinning the tires will just cause you to instantly bury yourself. If you do go to glamis, watch you ass!

Well if you just want to sit around and dwell about all the rich fucks, then of course you're going to have a shitty time. I go to Glamis to ride. Everywhere you go there are stupid fucks and every couple minutes someone dies from a drunk driver somewhere. I enjoy looking at the expensive toys I can't afford. Why not? :l

Who said i sit around and dwell on the rich folks? I have expensive toys too, but i actually put them to good use. I go out to ride(and drive). Id rather ride or drive somewhere with MUCH better terrain and safer atmosphere. there is a reason why SandSports magazine placed glamis on the bottom of their "top places to ride" list. Its shitty trerrain and is overcrowded. The dunes arent that big, the terrain doesnt vary, and you risk getting hurt by someone else. its weak...
Glamis is all posers and flat billers...

Im not trying to take away from the fun you're having but have you ever made a trip to another dune spot? I really think you should do yourself the favor and check out other places. If you have the time make a trip upto oregon camp at the Spinreel campground near Coos Bay. That place is rediculous. the terrain is fenominal. You have everything from fairly hardpacked sand tight trails in the woods, fast roads(soft sand) in the woods, wide open dudes, beaches, creek crossings. there are like 6 lakes. There are some tree shots that are so steep and tall that you wont make it unless you have stroked out banshee, or some other tricked quad. there are what we call lake shots. where a huge dune just disappars into a lake so once you go down it you have no place to turn around so again takes a lot of power. You can ride all day and never have any close calls. Its worth the trip.

lol, I can drive to Glamis in less than 4 hours. I don't even want to think about how long of a drive it is to that place, but it sounds nice. :P

Glamis is the ----, check out www.glamisweather.com my friend that owns the site, lives out there, and if you need anything look for Tim at the Main store/Pizza place/bar/dragstrip, he drive a yellow Ranger thats sponsored by Funco.com. He's the man out there, I might be going out there too. Dont forget to buy/bring a whip, you have to have one(if you want to take your yota off into the dunes) :y Its going to be hella packed out there, so watch for the crazys. And make sure you have a camping pass, rangers love to give tickets out there. And bring tons of fireworks, its better then the 4th out there and bring plenty of booze. One more thing, dont forget to bring a camera, chics love to ride around topless, and make sure you dont stare to long, Ive seen a few crashes because people were looking at the naked hotties and not where they were going.Your going to have a blast, I hope I get to make it out there.

Too deep? do you mean soft? cause yeah the sand is kinda soft in the stretch between spinreel and horsefall camp grounds. just need more power lol. You basically dont want anything smaller than a 250, thats for sure. Its nothing like some of the sand in mexico though, some of that ---- is even hard to walk through lol.

this ---- was hard to walk through, it was deep and soft.

i was on my 350x trike (393cc, 11:1 compression) but i didnt have my paddles on.

not hard to go through, i just think stiffer sand is more fun

The difference between sex with a virgin and sex with a 32yr. old mother of 2....both are fantastic. Sand has my heart. I actually hate riding in the desert anymore. Too many rocks and too many chances to wreck into some ---- you don't want to see. :l I love the sand.....nothing like opening up your bike and experiencing what the manufacturer wanted you to experience. :6 Sand is so silky smooth and nice.....even if you wreck, you're probably still going to walk away. Wreck into the rocky ass desert out here and you're fucked for at least 10 months. :-\
