Default are you turbo'd?

If you are turbo'd I have a question for you. This is mainly for the people who have been doing this for awhile. like Abaz and turboef. but here's the question...

I have heard horror stories about people installing a rebuilt turbo. hooking it all up and starting their car. To their dissapointment it smokes immediately. enough smoke to make cheech and chong proud. What do you guys do to prevent this?

Jeff? what size oil lines? needle valve? what!?

Thanks
Mike

you can try stop leak... it works a lil...

when you get your turbo (if its off a random car) look how big the fitting for the inlet is... the one on my t3 flange ihi was extremly small...and the one on my t3 was a lil bigger... if you got your turbo without the fittings try and find a pictureor something of the fittings that come on it... and get those... and then the right size line for them...

usually -3an line is good for a feed, and drain, well the bigger the better. i've heard of rebuilt turbo's smoking a bit at first until they get "broke in".

the seals normally dry up if the turbo has been sitting for a while un-used.
they soften most times and stop smoking unless it really is stuffed..

my seals were not dried up, they were actually flattened right off flush or just inside of flush so they weren't making a seal anymore.
