You know shit about computers?

I have an older ASUS mother board ( bought it like 3-4years ago) with a 1.3 AMD processor. I turn it on and a few seconds later it beeps once about 1-2 seconds long and shuts off?? You don't need any accessories hooked up right, I just disconnected the HD, CDROM, floppy, etc. to see if it would even get to the bios screen than of course not detect anything. I even tried removing the video (which I'm sure has nothing to do with it). So replaced the CMOS battery, ram (tried every slot) with know good ---- and nothing. It has to be ethier the Mother board or the processor. Really would like to which one, if the beep means anything?

the beep means something is wrong. Check your dip switches to make sure your running at the right frequency. Check to see if your psu is down on the cpu power part all of the way. make sure your ram is in all the way. same with ata cables. maybe you lost a jumper somewhere. who knows.

It was working like 6-12 months (I dunno can't remember) ago. It just stopped all of a sudden. I'm 99.9% I didn't ---- with any jumpers or anything. I'll check the manual I guess. ram and everything is pluged in right. I remember reading something that said the # of beeps meant something?

Some can be set up in the bios to halt startup if a floppy drive isnt hooked up....also most will halt if you dont have a keyboard plugged in as well.

Mine did the same thing when one of my ram chips wasn't pressed in all the way. Double check that.

asus boards beep with ram malfunctions. Try running it with one stick of known good ram.

Wow I just had a 5 year old Asus board with a 1.4ghz AMD chip die last week. It was either the motherboard or processor. The beeping from your mobo is like the CEL on an ECU... the patterns mean something so consult the manual or google it. Mine never beeped... but never came close to loading windows. It would randomly load of a floppy boot disk... and would crash randomly in the BIOS. I disassembled, cleaned off all the dust and still the same. I solved my problem with a barebones Sempron 3ghz, ASUS mb, 420w ps from xtechnology.com .
