WTF Tech question but someone help...
 

So while I'm wiring vtak today some kid comes up on a skateboard.

Kid: My car would stomp yours
Me: what do you drive
Kid: a 7
Me: what?
Kid: rx7, over there (points to 1st gen rx7)
Me: ok...
Kid: is it turbocharged? doesn't look like it
Me: no...
Kid: well.........have fun with that 8)

That's it for the general discussion part.

Now, I get it wired up, drive the car, no vtak and still have a CEL that comes on after the car is running.

I jump the service connector, since the CEL doesn't come on unless the car is running, I try to start it.

The starter click-click-clicks so I stop trying to crank. Unplug service connector and try again, no-go. Fuel pump primes, everything turns on, but when I try to crank it doesn't do ----. I can tell it's drawing power because everything dims when I try to crank...just nothing does anything.

I'm going to connect a test light and see if maybe the starter isn't getting power, but I don't know what to do...anyone have ideas?

Maybe a little more playing with ---- would help. Keep on playing with ---- and post some stuff up of what you have checked. Could be something simple

1st suggestion is punch the "kid" in the face :D

Secound is check your ground, doubt it would be that cause you say you had it started
and retrace anything you wired, make sure they are still all soldered, and a little more info what car engine, ???

Jago, this is going to sound really noobish...but what grounds should I be checking for?

It's a 1990 crx d16z6 block, y8 head, chipped p28, my daily driver...ran fine until I jumped the service connector and tried to start (which i've done before to check timing). I just drove it 5 minutes before I jumped service connector. I unplugged the vtec ---- (btw, had vtec solenoid to a4, oil pressure sender ... one line grounded and the other to d6.

btw, how do I check a cel that only comes on while the car is running?

I'd check the thermostat housing ground. Doesn't sound likely, but check it out anyways.

stock (n/a) 7's will get walked by about anything with over 10ftlbs of torque from a dig.

v8 > rotary.

Hey guys, it WAS the battery. Commence the laughter :)

Just had me freaked out because I've NEVER had a problem with the damn thing, then somehow the time I jumped the service connector it decided not to start anymore. ------- coincidence from hell. Had to jack doug's battery. Didn't make sense to me how jumping the service connector would cause ap roblem, but the previous owner has the wiring HACKED UP and it wouldn't have surprised me.

So anyway, how do I check a CEL that disappears when I turn the car off?

BTW , since the crx has 11ftlbs torque and vtec it should be able to beat that old rx7 eh? eh....i doubt it, turbo time :D
