get some brand name mics, check the crank against service specs before you start rebuilding it.if its scored, you can attempt to save it with some #2000 sandpaper and stone oil, polish it up with some compound, if you can get any scoring off the crank

Yeah right...try again. Nitrided steel for one buddy, that won't happen. Number 2 is if you do manage to smooth it down, the journal will be out of round. There is low budget, then there is ghetto...then there's you. Just go and buy another crank, they're cheap enough for a D series.
