Good luck on frying your welder White wires in any 110/220v electrical product are always used for a neutral wire. If it was a standard 2-wire (grounds are never counted in the wire count) 220v welder, it would have 1 black wire (common 110v), 1 red wire (common 110v) and 1 green or bare copper wire for ground. But the wire colors you gave are for a standard 110v connection, even though the specs you listed require a 30a 220v setup. You really need to post a pic of this thing, that would give us a much better idea of what you're dealing with. Oh, one other thing...220v welders should be internally wired with a minimum of 12 gauge wire, 110v welders use 14 gauge internally, unless someone has replaced the cord with a different one that's incorrect.

I agree, but he says it's 220v so I'm putting it in his hands. I'm guessing the cord is something some tard put on it over the years and the colors aren't correct. I'm waiting for an update.

ok well i really wasnt sure if i should bring this thread back cause its confusing as all hell, but it would be nice to have most of this info in one spot.....

anyways i just bought a smiley tools 160s and im trying to wire up my extension cord to my dryer plug....i also have a dryer plug that goes to a recepticale box so i dont have to climb behind my dryer to plug this thing in, but i can wire that myself if you guys tell me what wires go where on the rest of this stuff.....and for the best part PICS!!!!!!

the welder wires (black) and the extension cord (yellow) welder is 220v and im assuming the wires are 12ga. the extension cord is 10/3

next is the extension cord to the dryer plug...note the dryer plug has no colors so please let me know wich prong goes to what color on the extension cord..

and here is just a shot of the back of the welder, it has some info, not sure if its useful or not....

on the dryer plug, the middle is ground. the smaller of 3 wires is 99% of the time ground.

middle wire on dryer to green. outsides to white/black (hots)

on the HF, green is ground. purple and blue are hots

burkej you are a troll ******, this isn't www.cooperwires.com/forum tech support, this is www.hmt.com/forum.

noone gives a ---- what code is code, its a ------- extension cord. that's out of code in the first place
