Wireless networks, how to get more bandwith any network gurus here?
hi guys, my dsl's been pissing me off lately having to wait like 5 minutes to buffer a 5 minute clip on youtube, here's my setup i know we got some network gurus here so tell me if this is possible
Right now i got dsl from quest for $26+ tax i get 20-30k downloading ----. My neighbor has comcast cable that gets 30-50k and is wiling to share his internet, I have his wireless key, I have another neighbor with an unsecured wireless network from a satellite provider that gets about 20-30k downloading. Lately i just use my dsl for email, myspace hmt and ---- like that and switch to my neighbors wireless for you tube, but i dont want to hogg his bandwidth. Is there any way I can connect to both my network and his, and maybe the other one, at the same time using a wireless router. I have to buy one any way for my printer? |

all of those speeds suck. I can't beleive that the guy with cable is that slow. Maybe just a ---- site you are getting the video from.

My high speed cable is like 2k. :l I pay $82/month for internet and basic cable.
Wireless networks suck. I have to reset mine at least once every two weeks because it just forgets what's going on. ::) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

Just steal off the other neighbor, its hilarious how many times you can pick up a signal like that. Datalogging in my civic, tim picked up a signal from one of my neighbors, and my girlfriend in Florida is picking one up from one of her grandmas neighbors.

use a dishnet or other generic satelite, tape or secure wirless usb key to location of lnb, then run a usb to ethernet adapter and run ethernet cable to your computer, then point the dish towards neighbor.
easy yet extremly effective way to steal internet. |

what if i get two wireless adapters for my pc, and just use it as a server for all our other computers? will it be able to recognize the two networks and share bandwidth? i know im not the first person to think about connecting a bunch of networks together to get one fast connection?

Are you sure those numbers are right? I just did a speed test on my comcast connection and I get 4.2 Mbps down and 382kbps up. Do a speed test here: http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Yeah you can't use two connections worth of bandwidth and total it up. It doesn't work. You'd basically have two IP addresses since each connection is on a different network. You can however use a Dual WAN router in a type of Load-Balancing setup. What this will do is it will allow you to use both connections simultaneously, but not both TOGETHER. What I mean is that say both connections are a 1.5 Mbps each. You CANNOT download 1 file at 3Mbps, but you can download two files at 1.5Mbps each. Kinda see what I mean? You can't split the file among two connections, because you can't synchronize them, but you can use both connections.

by 20-30k, u mean 20-30 KB, right? that only works out to be 160-240 kilobits/sec. if so, i'd be livid. I'd be calling my isp right away..thats bullshit for a high speed line. IIRC, dsl speeds are guaranteed when you sign up.. see what speed you were promised when you signed up and see if its below that or not
