why is it when you go to a parts store

why is it when you got to a parts store to get somthing small like a throttle body gasket they always give you the wrong one and tell you its rite becuase the computer said it was. all i need is a integra ls throttle body and they gave me one that looks like its for a d16a6 lol. hell they dont even have any in stock to try to see if it will fit. got 2 more odered to see if they will work.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

why didn't you just look it up online and just give them the part number. Don't tell them what it is or what car it's for. Just give the guy the part number.
You know take the idiot behind the counters descision making skillz out of the equation.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

^^WTF are you talking about? So if I get a honda part number and go to autozone or anyplace in general the part numbers are gonna match up? Plus I didn't understand a word you said in that last sentence. That gave me a headache trying to read it :S When I go to a parts store I ask for a couple of different years and models and have them bring up the gaskets so I can see. Also I bring the part in so I can match it up. I hate going home and getting ready to put it on and find out it's the wrong part and have to drive back usually to get the wrong part.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

well for some readon orielys doesnt carry alot of little honda gaskets in stock so they have to order them granted they will be there the next day still puts me a day behind.if i could get the felpro part number for it it would be easy for them to find it but i dont really now how to get that number cept if they got them on there site wich they mite so ima look tonite whne i get off.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

Yeah by telling them a part number is the best route. Dont even tell them what car its for since theyre idiots anyways.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

They do have cross reference of part numbers. They can look them up....

Another thing. Look it up online first. Then go with the part number.

Autozone.com or advanceautoparts.com

I just recently had to buy a gasket set for my t3 turbo. Try to go there and ask for a t3 gasket set. You won't find it. I looked up the part number for a thunderbird turbo or for the volvo turbo. Went with it and a day latter had my gasket set. I did not have to give them any info, just the part number.

I did the same thing for the exhaust manifold gasket. Just looked up the felpro part number and gave it to the guy.

I had a similar problem at Home Depot. I'm trying to find metric bolts for my manifold and wastegate. I'm sure it was a funny sight, a guy with an orange shopping cart with a big 'ol turbo and a manifold on the basket. Anyhow, the guy asked me what it was for. I was like a project, He kept insisting. When I told him it was for a car, he told me they did not have them that I had to go to an autoparts store. I told him NO, they are right here. Just got to find the right thread and I'm good. He kept watching over me because he did not want me to open the little plastic packages.....

at our local autozone they have the dumbest blondest bitch ive ever met in my life and i always get lucky enought to get her. i dont think she evens knows how to change oil. i usually end up telling her what push on the computer screen. but when they give you the wrong part and you tell them they are wrong they get pissed like your the dumbass. i hate autoparts stores.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

yep. just had to bring a starter in for warranty replacement. took them 20 mins to figure out how to exchange it. another 15 to find the part. get home and instal the starter. try to install it....wrong one...my ride left for work so im stranded at home. i call the parts store, ask them to make sure that they have one for a z6 instock. guy gets all pissy, looks at his computer. gets smartass and says i knew that i gave you the starter for a honda 2.2 ltr.......im life WTF. since when do 2.2ltr starters work on my z6. then he gets even more pissed when he realizes he sucks at life.

Yeah, it sucks dealing with idiots that dont know whats what. At the nissan dealer ship (only place to buy the correct spark plugs for the vg30dett) the computer says the spark plugs needed are the NA plugs, but the NA plugs are the wrong one, so you have to tell them you want the other one. and they'll insist that the NA are right.

HMT needs to open a chain of parts stoes only run by people that are members and know what they are talking about.

NAPA online, learn to use it.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

Have you ever seen the parts lookup systems that most auto parts stores use?

No wonder they suck.

Plus most of the time parts stores are too cheap to pay for an employee that knows their ----. They would rather pay a high school kid to stand behind the counter, follow orders, and look parts up on their awesome computer systems.

I almost always look the part up myself before I go, just to be sure, because there's nothing that pisses me off more than buying a part, coming home, installing it, and THEN finding out it dosen't work.

The carquest where i'm at is nice. Because it's not a huge store the people inside are usually pretty smart.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

I work at Advance Auto, it pretty much blows ass. Shops ask for me to deliver parts to diagnose cars for them. I got offered jobs at 3 shops my first week on the job.

Most of the people dont know ---- about cars, the system sucks, and so do most of the customers. I've had a guy call in yesterday,
"Hi I need parts for a 85 cadilllac"
"alright, what model"
"Uh, I don't know, it's big."
-----

so yeah, I still look parts up online before i go in. Advance's website has more parts available than the stores.

Re: why is it when you go to a parts store

i worked at oreilly for a year while in college, i think i met maybe one other person there that actually was interested/worked on their own ----.

but yea advance sucks, its either the redneck ---- telling me i need to get some real american muscle ( then see his ass at the track that week running 15.8, lol) or the manager telling me that they don't have bkr6e-11 plugs and they can't order them, don't even show em. ------- aurgued with her for ten minutes ad finally just asked for ngk plugs for a 91 civic si, omg guess what the part number was?

fuckers, part stores piss me off.

then again, i sold myself the wrong parts a few times, :D

I worked at advance auto for the last 6 months or so, our store manager got cought stealing rims, tires, mad cash, it was pretty funny, then this dumb bitch assistant manager took over. I told her to "go to hell and ---- yourself" the most proud moment working for advance was the time I quit.

the advanced auto in my town has the people that know what their doing, but the autozone is all the dumb fuckers... thats where a bunch of ---- from, 2 msd ignitions, about 15 faze and autometer guages, a 5" tach, a coil, windsheild wiper blades, many sockets and ratchets, and two tubes of windowweld for my polyeurathane mounts. my friends tell me im a clepto

LOL, that reminds me of when I worked for a call center doing internet tech support.

Me: "Ma'am, can you please tell me what model of modem you have?"

Her: "Uh, Umm, a gray one"

What a dumb slut.
