Also running way too rich will do damage by coating your cylinder walls with fuel (wallwashing) and starve your rings of oil. So running too rich isn't good either.

yeah I understand running rich is bad too, but just from reading you guys' posts for the past 9 months I have gathered that rich is the lesser of two evils. Lean can kill your engine in a second, whereas rich is more of a gradual "crap hittin the fan."

Thanx for the detailed explanations.... reminded me of why I joined this website in the first place.
