Yeah it works upto 1200c
Well what it works upto is more to do with the type of thermocouple you use.
I think they Multi meters come with J or K type which is good to 1200c
As to using those gauges which dont need power. Your wasting your money.
You need something with cold junction compensation, and thermocuple auto calibration.

But if you read the post youll know what to look for in an acurate EGT gauge.
If your ok with +- 100c error the analogue units are ok. If you study the output curve of an EGT probe of Temp vs Voltage you will understand why its hard to keep them acurate.
