they paint it black because it looks clean even though it may not be.Personally i like flat black after all my car is painted flat hehehehe. I would tape up all the wires and lines you will need them like that to work on them easier.

When I do my engine swap, I'll be jumpin into the engine bay and spray painting the whole thing + underside of the hood to match my future car color. The shop is going to take a digital picture of the paint color I want and use that picture to mix very similar paint and put it into spray cans for me
