I don't hang around white guys that use ***** to seem tough. Those are the guys that use it seriously and think it sounds tough.

On the other hand, I have a couple friends who talk like they are black when around their black friends. At first I thought it was a bit wierd, but then I realise that I do the same thing when talking to some of the rednecks I grew up around. I get a touch of Southern in my voice, and I speak in a more direct fashion with more eye contact. Even my body language changes. On some level, it has to do with being comfortable with other people, and communicating in a way you know you'll be understood.
Still, the race thing is kind of wierd, no matter how at ease you try to be. I was dating a black girl a couple years back, Leigh, and some of our friends asked us if we wanted to go to the local booty club, which is 80% black ppl. Leigh says, dead serious, "like I want to go someplace where I'll be groped by a bunch of ------s." I dunno, token whiteboy really didn't know what to say to that.

i understand where you're coming from. who you are around does play a role in the way you talk. some of my white friends do the same when around me but some of them know me well enough to know they don't have to be something they're not just to fit in with me hell some of my black friends call me banks........short for carlton banks yea go figure.
