whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
ok, when cars are rated with hp, like the neon srt-4 is rated at something like 240 hp, is that whp or at the crank? I want to know what cars I can somewhat keep up with in my weight class. Also, the RSX is 200hp, is that whp or just at the crank, because my car is about 170whp, which would be Close to 200 at the crank.

Manufactures rate their cars at the crank.

Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
you loose about 15% from crank to wheels in a manual right?
|
Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
Something like that.

Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
wrx's lose like 70 hp through the drivetrain.

Like my car. At the crank its 400hp!!! But only 171 at the wheels. :P

Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
awd cars will always lose more power at the wheels than 2wd cars.

Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
yeah the Manufactures state what there cars are at the crank not at the wheels. Sometimes it may even seem false on what power their cars actually make just to sell their cars. For instance a couple of car lovers tested the new miata and actually compare the drivetrain loss of what mazda clame of 178 bhp and found out it might not make that actual power. Another though like the Skyline claims 280 bhp but actually make more like 320 bhp which is more of a benifit if you think about it.
When it comes down to it..Whp means much much more than Bhp.You can have all the power you want but if you aint putting that much to the ground you aint ----. :P Cars that suffer from that are the Supra, 300ZX, and 3000gt. |
Re:whp vs rated hp, help me out here!
Typical Honda/Acura drivetrain loss is 17%
oh and if anyone wanted to know, BHP means brake horsepower, basically meaning (at the crank) |
