Who Speed Shifts?

Re:Who Speed Shifts?
people do this ''double-clutching'' ''speed shifting'' ---- because, face it, they're car is just underpowered. ----, think about it this way...would you be doing all that racer-ex type shifting ---- if you were in a m5 or a heavily modded supra or a skyline? NO! cuz you'd have the power to void from doing all that hocus pocus. if you wanna get interesting with shifting techniques i think rev-matching is an essential skill to be aquired. better yet, go research dog-geared transmissions...then you could shift without using the damn clutch. iono, i dont drag race, it's boring. i like circuits and courses...and i always use the clutch when i blaze it down the straight at Laguna Seca. anyways, save your tranny, clutch and motor.
honestly, i'd rather turn up the boost than worry about hearing a grinding noise when i ---- up 'F&F shifting.' MENA-ZHHHAAYY!!!!
RWD is grand.

You just pulled some F&F ---- right there. What gear are you in at the end of your "write-up"? It sounds like you shifted into second gear twice.

Re:Who Speed Shifts?
Alright, there are a lot of ignorant people running around on this thread. When I said speed shifting I meant using the clutch, but keeping the gas pinned, I explained it in my first post. Whoever said it doesn't work is an idiot, my friend shaved 2 tenths off his time just from speed shifting. Yes, I would do it in a faster car, shifting like this makes the car accelerate faster, period. The only thing it has hurt in my buddy's or my car is the clutch. The clutch will slip if you do this too much with a stock clutch, but the synchros will grind if you shift fast whether the gas is floored or not.

Re:Who Speed Shifts?
blah, the only time I ever do it, is when I'm NA. When you have a good FI setup on a car thats putting down some good power, with a stock clutch or even a pretty decent one. They will slip a little bit, and it just creates big hot spots on your flywheel when power/speed shifting. It's so bad on the clutch to do that. Lots of guys that I street race with that are "all motor" do this, and it works really really good for them, Its like there is 0 delay when shifting.

speed shifting will net you better time in ANY car. 10 sec drag car or 16.5 sec stock 5 speed civic... what you're sayin is just plain ignorant... speed shifting has nothing to do with F&F crap...
i can't believe you said rev matching... that is more ricerish than anyone saying speed shfiting. i believe when this thread started the shifting technique was pertaining to drag racing. rev matching is for road racing or similar types... and even then... it doesnt do much... go ahead and rev match your gears when shifting you'll be slower... the revs will just drop down to where they are suppsoed to be when you let out the clutch anyways.
nonvtec is exactly right... less time to shift & rpms dont drop as much, gas stays pinned... you get an extra lil kick when you let the clutch out... the only down side to this is that it is hard on driveline... esp in a torquey car... ive wasted 4 muncie transmissions, a centerforce clutch, and bent a couple drivelines speed shifting... ohh and its easier to miss gears speed shifting too.

Re:Who Speed Shifts?
random-strike - i just mentioned rev-matching cuz it's a technique that is not only healthier for the car, but essential not just in road coarse racing but exiting out of any turn (even on the street). yes, rev-matching doesn't make you accelerate faster from a stand still...but from an apex it does. my main point is..speed shifting....great, it shaves off a 10th of a second (which is a lot)...but who gives a ---- about shifting fast and compromising the well being of your car if you got 300 hp? all i'm saying is, all the guys that support this must have some slow *** cars in order to be devising and impleting driving techniques like this that compromise the car!!! sorry i dont mean to offend anyone who haven't HMT'd their cars yet. if i ever had to squeeze any other ounce of speed outta my car i would speed shift......but i wouldn't do it because i want my tranny, clutch and flywheel to last.

550ft-lbs of torque + speed shifting = feels like a slingshot everytime you shift

Thank you jeff...
You guys just dont understand or are to slow yourselfs.. like i said. my car is not that slow. a 12.9 second run isnt that slow.. and thats ALL MOTOR
