That's a bunch of crap you were told so dumb rednecks wouldn't disable a working PCV system out of ignorance.

The only thing that dictates engine longevity, aside from design, is exhaust valve guide temps. ----------ing Sir Harry Ricardo discovered back in the teens that engine life was directly affected by temps at the exhaust valve. Any oil vapors from PCV are burned up by the time they reach the exhaust valve.

A working PCV system is great because it pulls oil away from all the seals and gaskets in the engine, so if any of them are a little leaky none pass oil while the engine is operating in the vacuum range. Ever had a car that started smoking after you shut it off, from oil dumping out of a valvecover gasket onto the exhaust manifold? That was a functional PCV system.

Anything pushing power creates blowby when you lay into it. All an emissions-legal PCV system does is cause crankcase pressure to build up and blow out seals and force oil past the rings. Not good ----.

If I wasn't banned from DSMtuners for arguing with a "wiseman" about PCV systems (he swore it was nessesary for ring seal and I said it was for emissions only), I would link them this thread or send JD over there and then laugh for days.

ring seal is better when the crankcase is in vaccuum but it is not nessescery for good ring seal, but it does help efficiency wise. Its worthlesss in a boosted motor because pcv system will allow the crankcase to become pressurized and that is not good at all.

So their is no proven facts to say that friction is related in anyway to engine life?

how dose pcv have any thing to do with friction

pcv valves are just one of many of reasons engines last a lot longer now.

I believe that a properly setup crankcase vent on any engine will increase its life by lessening oil contamination. A vacume at idle on your crankcase burns up all your blowby gasses keeping your oil cleaner. Although at heavy engine load you do need to be able to get rid of all those blowby gasses with a quickness which a draft tube does very well.

I personally have both my crank vent and vc vent routed to a catchcan with a baffle in it and a big 2" hole in the top for gasses to vent. And I change my oil often

Of course, but the problem with PCV is that it only gives that crank case vacuum when you need it least (at light throttle cruise) and not when you really need it (at heavy/WOT).

I run 2 moroso breather tanks, one that connects to the block, and one that connects to the valve cover via 10AN lines drained back to the block. my dipstick used to pop out with the stock pcv sytem , even with brand new pcv valve. so the cans are worth it.
