they are not obx cams bill, i dont buy cheap stuff :-) :-P bill you rocked the ssauto mani I have not! 
The lma's are type r (type r head) so I honestly dont htink that is the problem, I did rotate the motor over a few times before firing it, And the motor ran for about five minutes. Normaly if the lma's are binding they will break on initial startup.

no pics, i just got done (3 pm) putting my new valve springs/retainers and valves in.
Omni power flat faced valves and omni power springs/retainers
only took 4 hours and i got a 3 angle valve job :-)
put it back together with a spoon 2 liter head gasket. compression should be up to about 11.5 now.

What springs and retainers were you running? I have skunk stage 2's and portflow springs and retainers and have had 0 problems. They did have problems a long time ago with their first cores, but i really havent seen any problems since. Most breakage has been from poor installation. Maybe you just got a bad core. Good luck with the rest of your build.
