Who has ALLDATA? Or has taken door panel off a '98 Jetta
My girl's passenger side rear window doesn't stay up all the way, it slides down by itself and has to manually be pushed back up to close. Even then, it will eventually fall back down. This is on a '98 Jetta VR6.
I am gonna take off the door panel and have a look and see if it has simply come unbolted from the rail. I've never worked on a VW before and I know there will probably be something weird that I don't know about. I haven't given it a super close look yet either though. Can anybody post up what alldata has to say about removing the panel and fixing the window? Better yet has anybody done this? Pretty straightforward? I know racintweek works at a dealership... I've just had bad luck in the past on a few door panels with clips and ---- breaking, wanna know if this will be the same deal. |

You need a new window regulator. Pretty simple to take the door panel off. It's a common VW problem and easy to change out.

the part number you need is: 1H4-839-462-A dont get a used one or an after market one. get it from a VW dealer. they go for around $100 depending on how big of a mark up your local dealer uses

Re: Who has ALLDATA? Or has taken door panel off a '98 Jetta
From what I remember the motor still works, it just wont put the window alllll the way up. So if that is the case, it would be the regulator?
How long of a job should this be? 2 hrs maybe? |
Re: Who has ALLDATA? Or has taken door panel off a '98 Jetta
It's defiently the regulator trust me on this one. Takes about 1/2 to change out. Take the window all the way up, pull the door panel off, bolt motor/regualtor from door skin, than unbolt the motor and put it on the new regulator. reinstall and your done. I've had no problems with the ones on ebay.
