Is there water in the exhaust? Does it have a sweet smell? Do you see antifreeze in the exhaust?

Oil in the downpipe?

White smoke is usually from metal burning.

It may just be the oil burning off the DP.

That is most likely the culprit. It might just appear white, but is really a "bluesh" hue. If its pure white clouds of smoke, it is generally metal burning :)

I'd check your downpipe for oil. If you're burning metal thats not a good sign.

Right before my first motor blew up it was burning white smoke. I ignored it thinking I was burning oil, and about an hour later I spun a bearing. One of the pistons had lost its balance and parts of the valve were starting to bond with the piston when it rose up because of the immense amount of heat (there was damage to the piston surface giving me this indicator).

If you're hearing detonation, or anything sounds a little off you need to sorely examine everything.

It is most likely oil if there are no "odd" sounds. But just to be safe I would check the downpipe and turbo to see if oil is leaking from those. You may also want to monitor the oil pressure.

I am assuming that you aren't using a catalytic converter?

Re:white smoke ! help

Detonation can be heard from the cabin. It sounds like tapping on the valve cover, or when I experienced it it sounded more like when you take a hose at full power and bend the neck of it at about a 60 degree angle. That sound is almost identical.

Think about it, detonation results in the cylinder rods shaking, so you hear them tapping. Sometimes it may get so bad that you can also hear the valves tapping.
