honestly, having owned a single 4850, i can say that unless you happen to use a 32" monitor running 2kx2k+ resolutions, theres very little reason to go SLI/CF. most people on a 19-22" LCD will be at 1680x1050 and a single 4850/4870/9800gtx+/gtx260 will all run every game out there at those resolutions no problem!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if they did "equalize" the two cards since it would be much easier to divide the workload evenly, was just hoping ATI would have devised a clever way to divide based on the power of each individual card.
Either way, I'll get a 4870 now and later when it's not enough, I'm sure I can pick up another 4870 for next to nothing.
