Re: When Good Nitrous Goes Bad

Not the first time a Showdown Motorsports car has went up in flames :)

This is the story of Show Down Motorsports. NO ONE GO THERE.

Story goes like this:
FIRST the setup:
B16a3 OBD1 1994 Del Sol
16G turbo
Custom Manifold
VAFC
440cc injectrs
DSM BOV
Intercooled
Tial WG with 5 psi spring

I went to go get the car street tuned this weekend at a place called ShowDown Motorsports. I was nervous going to a shop I had only barely heard of but felt a little better when I got there and there was some full race car talons there with 10.xx put on the windsheild from the track. I walk in to there cluttered shop and say I am here for the 1 o'clock tune, they take the full race car off the lift and ask for my keys, they throw the car up in the air and weld on an O2 bung for the wideband for the street tune and lower the car, throw on a boost controller and went to start her up.

I noticed at idle the wideband said 15.4 (I don't understand it but you guys probly do), BUT ANYWAYS. The guy took my rough tuned VAFC car and just started reving it over and over I am seeing the wideband run like nuts from 10.XX to 18.X and I am like OOO K. I have never seen a car tuned and these guys SAID they tune vafc's all the time. He goes to the sensor settings and puts them to 7in and 6 out. I told him with all hondas you want 6 in 6 out, we argued for a minute and he said "Well before I tune it I am gonna let it idle and warm up before I take it out." I notice him online checking out setups on honda-tech.com and then after the car warms up I see him change it back to 6 in and 6 out. He starts reving it more and then I notice him just goto the narrow settings and while revving and he just holds the down button all the way to 0% I AM LIKE WTF. The car of course gets flooded and dies, he takes it back to 40% and after a while it finally started from just being flooded.

He keeps going all the way to 50% TO 0% JUST HOLDING THE BUTTON or hitting it really fast. I am freaking out and tell him to put it at 40% and work around that area. He puts it at like 41% I beleive. Then starts to reverse it out of the garage and out of nowhere smokes starts POURING out from under my hood at all sides including my hood scoop (kaminari full cf hood). I am like freaking out and beat red in the face by these guys. I pop the hood and can't even stand near my hood because all of the smoke coming from the Valve Cover Breather. I am thinking to myself "I have read on HT that this is usually a cracked ringland." But try not to panic just yet. What does the tuner do? He revs it "to see if it stops at high rpms" as he said it. I am like WTF SHUT IT OFF!

I shut it off and tell him I want a compression test done ASAP! He is like "It costs 15 bucks to do a compression test". I said "WELL YOU BLEW MY MOTOR I WANT TO KNOW NOW WHATS UP!". He finally runs in and grabs the compression tester and I do it up and I have 150/143/130/53. I yell out GOD DAMN IT. and they have another guy come out and they say they wanna do another one to make sure its reading right. They do it again, same thing. I ask them what they are going to do about it? They say nothing and tell me to push the car out of the way so they can get a guys 240sx with a skyline motor swap in to put do a clutch install. I AM REALLY HOT NOW. I move my car, call AAA and they say it will be 2 hours until they can get there.

That's funny, Norwalk Raceway Park is like 30 minutes from me and we always hear about "what happened at the track" the other day and I did not hear ---- about that. I also did not realize there was such a big Evo group within my area. Anyway, that sucks to be that guy, whether you like DSM's or not, it could have very well been a Honda or whatever else burning to the ground. To me that just shows that Norwalk needs to have a better method of putting fires out than just exstinguisher's, seems as if they should have a truck on hand besides the nights that they do "Night Under Fire" events. I have to make it to the track more often this year.

Re: When Good Nitrous Goes Bad

that showdown motorsports, is like 5 mins from where i live at school.

that was the shop i told everyone about here, that blew up my friends del sol. =(

im glad no one got hurt from there (i guess), but i could careless about that car.

I can show you more posts about their 'craftsmanship' on a local forum toledotuners.com

they have a good reputation for bad work around here. there are a few good cars that they have made, but overall, i would reccommend people to just stay away from there
