when did cars stop coming with tubes in the tires?

so i'm talking to my mom about using innertubes when playing in rivers and in the snow and ---- and she starts talking about the tubes in her 02 hyundai accent need to be replaced.

ok so most of the time my mom makes sense but she's driving me nuts to figure out when cars stopped coming with tubes in the tires. now i'm not talking about slicks having tubes. i'm talking about cars being delivered at the dealer with tubes in the tires.

so give me a date.

Radials vs bias ply.

Re: when did cars stop coming with tubes in the tires?

International used them on 1-ton trucks in 1973

after that, they went to 16" solid steel

im not sure about other brands, but if they stopped in 1973, it was for safety/epa/fed regulations. 1980 scouts still had lap only belts :1

Re: when did cars stop coming with tubes in the tires?

is that what i asked? ---- face.
i mounted her tires on the rims. i know there isn't a tube in there.
what i need to know is what year did cars stop coming with tubes in the tires.
simplex has come the closest to answering my question with 1973 1ton trucks had them.

Re: when did cars stop coming with tubes in the tires?

im sure there is some aspect of tires that still require tubes, but the late 80's was the last practical use of tubes i've seen (lawn tractors, wheelbarrows, etc)

you can still buy tube-required tires, apparently low pressure rim/tire combos require them as they lack the structural ability to take high pressures to seat the beads

load of crap. radial tires weren't 100% tubeless until metric ratings hit tires. i have tube load range C tires from a cj3 that were bought new in '83 and garage kept/religiously wiped with tire shine so they're crack-free

my first car about 11 years ago had a tube in the tire. They did know what the heck it was doing in there since it was wrong type tire for a tube. The car was purchased from in a old farm community.
