you don't need a shortcut to say windows media player, on the desktop. or any "file" shouldn't be there either.

thats the main reason the desktop was created.

because when you open the file, it opens the player. why clutter up your desktop with unneccesary garbage. why do you care, yours wasn't too cluttered.

I have never used KDE. Is it alot better than gnome? what are the pros and cons of it. I might intall it and give it a try. Kdes panel does look better though. Im personaly using Fedora 2.

there are not really any pros or cons to using kde as opposed to gnome. they are both big bloated *** resource hogging desktops. its really just a matter of personal preference. i just REALLY dont like the look, or the feel, of gnome. try out kde, im sure that you will like it. lol, the last time i used gnome was when i was a linux noob and started with red hat 6, lol. im sure gnome has progressed a shitload, but i would rather not bother with it.

actually, depending on my mood, i dont always use kde. other window managers that i LOVE are fluxbox, enlightenment, and xfce4. those three are pretty bare as far as guis are concerned, but they use ALOT less resources. if i know that i am going to be doing alot of resource intensive work for long periods of time, i use one of those three window managers instead.
