Yes it's supercharged, and it's like 2.2 liter or something, but only puts out 205 or something (and I'm sure that's at the flywheel). Not very impressive.
What is impressive is the look of the car, and if the motor turns out to be able to take large amounts of abuse, it could be a pretty good platform to wrench on. The weight and the low horse output (for being supercharged) are my only concerns. I can't remember the torque on it.

Everything these days I compare to honda. If a car comes out with 2.2 or 2.4 liter with a supercharger, I just ask myself what an H22 would put out with a supercharger. Compared to that does this new car impress you? Not in this case, but if the car looks good and the motor proves to be a 4 cylinder 350, or B16 (a.k.a. A good platform to add to) than it could be good. :-\

very good point and comparison steve ;)

the only good thing about this car is ecotech can handle crazy amounts of power and boost on totally stock internals

the h22 would probably put out more power at the same boost with the same charger, but the h22 im sure has higher compression.

the h22 wouldnt last as long because its not made for it. the cobalt SS uses 87 octane... ext..

i dont like it at all. but the ECOTEC engine is the new small block chevy :)

I work at a Saturn dealership and we have had the engine for over a year...in our Redline Coupe. Its a 2.0l supercharged Ecotec. GM always tests new products in Saturns as if we are guinea pigs lol. It is a strong engine and the 2.0l version has beefier rods, lower compression and stronger pistons than the typical 2.2 found in Cavaliers and ION's. Infact, the stock crank has been proven to hold 650hp when testing first began in what's now Lisa Kubos ride. As it sits the engine is WAY undertuned and can handle far more power but they havent released that info to us or the public yet. The cylinder walls (both the sleeve and jacket) in those Ecotecs are massive for a 4 banger. I would say a good 25-30% thicker than a Honda engine in comparision. Wheere they lack is their ability to handle some rpm's. They have balance shafts that really draw on the engine and slow its potential down but they can be removed. They were designed to help with idle qualities for a production vehicle. I have 2 Ecotec blocks and a head sitting in my garage...core returns that were never picked up :)
