Whats a good moderately priced dremel tool?
 

Simple question,
as these things seem to come in handy for ALL SORTS
of things to do with turbo setups, and any sort of custom anything pretty much.. auto related or not.

SO i'm wondering, what might you guys recommend I buy
that is a good dremel tool, but doesnt cost an arm and a leg? Should I get something that comes with a bunch of different bits, or buy that separately?

correct me if i'm wrong but these arent too expensive?
I remember glancing at them briefly in a hardware store and seeing prices around 15-40 bux or so?

sound right?

My first instinct is Ryobi,
although I dont know much about this subject,
from what i've seen, they're kinda the "sony of little electric hand tools" hehe.

again.. sound right?

hmm, I might just do that.

or at least go to sears to buy one..
for some reason I always avoid that place even though I know full well its probably the best place to buy tools :P

but anyways,
what about which would be a good quality dremel?

Why would you want to avoid sears? They have all kinds of electronics and tools to play with!

I'm not too sure what a good brand would be, but I hate my my dremel tool. Maybe if I could rig up a lawn mower engine to the thing it might actually dremel something. I think all it really does is make noise.

What man, sears is the ----. I got mine there, craftman for $40 on sale with variable speed and about 100 little attachments, sanders, cutters and ----. Works good too.

haha I got nothin against sears,

I dont know why i never go though,
but I wana!!

i hear they have a great waranty on everything,
so if any tool breaks you can just bring it back no questions asked.

Sears is the only way to go for your dremel, because the craftsman brand dremel has a 1 yr free replacement warranty, and they will repair it for free for life. I have destroyed a couple already, so that has saved me.

My 4.5 inch grinder comes in handy more than my Dremel. It makes it alot easier and faster to cut plastic than a Dremel

hmm, thats a good point,

wouldnt a good electric drill, just using the same dremel bits be even better? stronger?

get the 40$ one with variable speed and a few bits.

But what you really need is a Die Grinder. It looks 5 times the size of the Dremel takes biger bits and can actually get some work done. (See the old articles on head porting by Joe).

I have a proper 1/4th HP porting motor with flexi shaft and diffirent hand pices that take the 2-4mm shanks. Then I have the Die Grinder which is like the Dremel on steroids.

I had the 180$ Dermel kit with shaft, box, the works. Little pice of crap broke down on me in 2 months.

i have several dremel brand dremels
i still have the one from when the first came out and it still works great
buy a kit with LOTS of attatchments because those things are pricey for what you get

i was cheap and got the generic one from Kragen with the flexi-shaft and everything. it was only 19.99 after $10 mail-in rebate. it is so far so good, but i haven't done anything too demanding with it yet. the sanding bits that came with it are ----, so i buy dremel bits that work perfectly in my knock-off dremel.

An electrical drill will never spin the rpm's that a dremel will. If you want something more heavy duty, go with a die grinder. For light duty stuff (like injector seals) use a dremel. You would rip right through your injector seals if you tried to use a die grinder.

Hate to Hi-jack a thread but is there something like a die grinder(ie...1/4 bits, extended use) but electric. I have a dremel but it doesn't seem like it could stand up to porting a head or manifold. I hate running my air compressor for hours on end to keep up with a die grinder. You know.

If i had a die grinder i would get a huge air compresser to keep up with the tool so you dont go def listing to that damn compressor.
