I'm in OHIO and don't have to run a front plate until new steel ones are required. Seems hitting a dog at 70 mph is a good excuse as to why I don't have a front plate, although it wasn't on the car ANYWAYS.......becasue from last wreck the repair shop failed to install the little metal inserts for the plate to bolt to.........that was 5-6 years ago!

for the record: pulled over 4 times for no front plate. 2 warnings in the CRX by Snohimish county, 1 time in the GTI ticketed by Snohimish County, once in the GSR warning by Everett Police....
think i will make a bracket and mount up the plate on the GSR...sence i dont really have a good reason for it not being there...

Re: whats the big deal with front licence plates?
my car came with a fancy front license plate "holder", first day I got the car I took that mugger off. I want to fill in the holes and repaint the bumper too, but it's been 2 years and I haven't done anything about it.
I still have my front license plates from two cars and one from my brother's car (no way I was gonna let him rock a front plate) brand new unused in the envelopes they mailed them in.
Myself, it's been three years and 2 different daily drivers and not a word about it.
Even when I park the Hondas I've had, they didn't have front plates, a couple of them weren't even rocking rear plates. I feel that the front plates ruin the flow of the car. You buy a car, you maintain it to look nice, if the front plate don't look nice on the car, why put it on. You pad for the plates at the DMV, they got the money, what's the problem.
I know that they have their reasons for requiring a front plate, but I still ain't gonna rock that mugger.

As was said earlier, front plate tickets are for "if you want to be a dick" or "if you suspect something else, and need a reason to pull them over."
If you live in a 2 plate state the just putting one in your windshield doesn't cut it.
and final piece of trivia.
The reason why a plate must be on the front bumper and not in the windshield is because if a cop is parked at night they aim their radar at the front plate because it is reflective, and just aiming the radar at the front bumper may not give them an accurate reading.
