Alright for the sake of answering your question a bit and adding some experience to you....
Burning out happens when you just put your foot down and let the clutch out....and the tires break loose.
If you let the clutch out with a little gas and your car doesnt break its tires loose THEN YOU SHOULDNT BE DOING BURNOUTS
The purposes of doing burnouts are...
A. Heating up the rubber compounds on a high performance tire, that are made to be heated up. Racing tires are made to preform at a hot temperature, its why you see NASCAR/CART/GRAND_PRIX drivers swerving all over on a yellow flag, its to keep the tires hot.
- Sorry, if you have Less Schwab specials on your rims then the only thing you are doing in a burnout is leaving more rubber on the road, and killing your tires.
B. Heating up the traction compound that you coated the tires with and "glazing" it onto the tire. You dump a bunch of traction goop on the tire at the drag strip and this is the best way to burn the excess off.
Im sorry, but this is just one of those questions that is just retarded, and makes me think of the time I saw a bunch of High School kids in a Mustang club doing donuts in a parking lot next to me, then bragging about his posi-traction and how much power his hooker headers gave him.
He just rolled in doing donuts, almost hitting a few cars in the process, then hung his head out the window asking who wanted to race his 5.slow now that he had his new headers....
Yeah I want to race a guy that cant even keep his car going in a straight line <----please dont be like that guy

but yeah, Burnouts are also about impressing people, making your competition get nervous, or choking old ladies.
Starting on water helps, and also having bald tires help, and tkae you hood off, it helps, and spray your tires with silicone spray, WD40, Bleach, just about anything that you wouldn't drink, make sure you keep your windows closed, and your fan off.
