What you know about the VW Golf Rallye?

I was converting my Golf to AWD, but then I found a golf Rallye. Basically these cars are AWD with a widebody kit from the factory and come with the same engine as the G60 Corrado (1.8L Supercharged). Leather Recaro interior too.

It's metallic blue, 89 Rallye. Has around 133k miles (222k kilos) just had the charger belt replaced. Looks to be in good condition, but I'm in Baghdad, car's in Germany. I pick it up in April when I get back. It was only 3,300 euro which is around 4 grand (it's actually less because I don't have to pay the taxes a german would, it'll be around 3300). As soon as I get it, the charger's coming off and the massive parts cache I was assembling is going on this one.

They have another for 4300 euro if anybody wants it. Mine was cheaper because it has some rust as indicated below.

As you can see though, the only rust that has to be cut and welded is the sideskirt, just need a new hood and hatch, no big deal. MAN I'm friggen stoked.

I'm selling my other Syncro setup now because I don't need it anymore and I'll throw in a lightweight flywheel and short shift kit if anybody is interested....

The car will only sport the supercharger for about a week after I pick it up, after that, all this crap is going in and more

HD oil pan
Windage Tray
K24 turbo
audi 5000 exhaust manifold
audi 5000 shortrunner intake manifold
Innovate lc1 wideband
Autotech 260 cam
Autotech cam gear
Joe P mbc
ARP headstuds
ARP rodstuds
ARP mainstuds
Phenolic Spacer
Water injection
Titanium spring retainers
HD valvesprings
Supertech Valves
lightweight Lifters
lightweight intermediate shaft pully
Innovate Motorsports lma3 data logger

Some stats on the car off the top of my head

Displacement 1.8L SOHC 2v per cyl
Intake valves 40mm
Exhaust valves 33mm
160 HP
0-60 8.8 :3
Syncro AWD
Tires/wheels stock 205/50/15 15x6
5 speed
130 MPH top speed
5000 produced between 88 and 91, never imported to the US.

Probably less than 20 in the United States.

That's all I got

One of ~5000 hand built cars made for homologation into Rally. 1H code G60 supercharged 1.8L 8v. 160hp, fmic. AWD with viscous coupling, IRS, 4 wheel disks, flares, bumpers, and grille specific to the car. Projector headlights. Cable shift trans, drivetrain is solid to about 350-400hp before diff and 3rd gear failures become an issue. Known to hold 600+ hp and massive amounts of torque from turbo VR6s when equipped with a proper gear set and aftermarket torsen diffs. Blablabla... lots more ---- HMT people don't care about.

So yeah, I know about it, and if I had the money you'd be shipping me the other car.

i think all the work you plan on doing to the engine is a waste of money. the cyl head is a piece of trash.
i would take a much diff route, 2.1l 20v turbo. ABA/ABF bottom end, 1.9TDi crank, an AEB cyl head, and a fatty snail. you'll prob end up saving money in the end going that route and you'll make way more power. just my .02

I hear ya, thing is I got it for cheap. I did all the porting and polishing myself and I have the tools to do the 5 angle valve job :y

Some reputable tuners have said that the counterflow will flow more than the crossflow when both ported equally (assuming you also put counterflow valves into the crossflow head). No need to replace the crank for now, there are people in the 10's with the stock crank. I got most of the parts really cheap, so I'm not worried, and I like to route for the underdog. If I was going to spend as much money as you're suggesting, I'd just swap a VR6 in there. I'm sure that I can get around 300 or so HP with the parts I already have....if it becomes an issue I'll pull the engine and sell it to somebody (and probably get almost what I spent due to the fact that I am doing most of the stuff my self such as balancing and ----). Everybody has their opinions though, I have been told the same thing many many times on VWvortex.
