heres my $.02.
if its a new bank, i would be almost certain there is some sort of monitering system somewhere. if anything, they have a camera that moniters who drives through that area. not sayin that couldnt be beat, but im sayin im sure its there. look at how they could investigate it. the people who deposited the money could say, they deposited it around 9pm (example) they go back to the moniters and look...it wouldnt be to hard.

also, watch cops...that ---- could be a set-up. :P

what would I do....well, im a firm believer in "what goes around comes around" its happened to me one to many times in one way shaper or form.
i would probably be the good guy pick it up, and then take it to the bank in the morning.

well I'm not one that believes in what come around goes around much, but it just sucks to have to suffer that kind of lose. What drives my decision is how it feels to lose that much money, I know how it feels and the shittyness that follows.

Cause when I was managing this business, the deposits were extremely critical, as they were needed to pay the bills of the establishment that have already been sent out, and the deposit is extremely important to make sure the checks cleared. Of course there are those businesses that just rake in the money and it won't affect them much.

And frank makes a good point what if it is a set-up =P.

Also it is hard for me to imagine a BofA not having cameras. You know the little black square on the atm, there is usually a camera behind it. You know the square next to the mirror.

this is one of those shitty morality questions they use at every leadership and ethics workshop ive ever taken.. the answer plane jane.. its not your money you didnt do anything to directly result in said money to be yours.. its apples to apples with stealing the shirt off your fathers back.. its not right.

Okay, here's the truth. The ------- idiot who left the money in the drop was me.

I must have been distracted and ---- when I was dropping the money, my fiancee was in the car with me and I know she was bitching about something so... anyhow, I have no excuse, I ------- left my key in the lock and left the deposit in the open drawer. We drove home. About an hour later, I notice my bank key is not on my keychain and ---- my pants. I haul *** back to the bank... what do I find? The drawer is shut, and my key is sitting out of plain view on top of a ledge above the drawer. I can't exactly break into the bank at 8 pm to see if somebody was being a good samaritain (sp) and closed the drawer for me, so I have been sweating this all damn night. Did somebody take the money? Did somebody do the right thing? Did somebody take a few bucks and THEN deposit the money? I still don't know. The bank opens in one hour and thirty three minutes and i'll be damned if i'm not their first phone call... I know all the people at that bank. So, we'll see if i'm royally fucked or not.

EDIT: There have been alot of good responses from people who obviously know what being responsible for money is all about. And for those of you who would take the money... I hope it wasn't some ------- drifter who found my mistake first, because i'm pretty sure the only sort of person who would have taken the money is somebody on foot wandering around the bank. In the dark. I figure if somebody drove up to do their OWN deposit, and saw what I left there, they would be faced with this morality issue. Then they would probably think of what to happen to THEM if they lost their OWN deposit, and close the drawer for me. The drawer is in a otherwise isolated part of the side of the bank, and you probably wouldn't notice it unless you had to go do a deposit there...
