Re: what stupid stuff have u done working on ur car?

During my apprenticeship at a few transmission shops i did a few stupid things to say the least, i just cant remember most of it.

I remember i was starting to piss off my boss because every time we had a dodge with the crank sensor in the transmission bellhousing i would take it out putting the unit on the dowel pins, and they were worth about $200 our cost every time. I think i destroyed at least 8 or 9 of them untill i finally just sucked it up and spent a half hour removing and reinstalling the stupid sensor.

That or the times when it would take me 3-4 times to do a service because i would forget to put the filter in again and again.

I wasnt that bad though this other idiot we hired right out of college and had never turned a wrench made me look like a pro. He crashed our shop truck into a customer vehicle, crashed customer vehicles into hoists and ----. One time he drove a pickup off the side of the drive on hoist, luckily it was still on the ground, and he wanted to try to drive it back up onto it but it was never going to work, the tire wasnt tall enough so i told him to chill out or he's going to ---- things up even more. So i go off to grab a jack and some ---- to get it back on and the dumbfuck decides hes going to put it into reverse and stomp on it. Truck slides backwards, tire wont climb the rail just slides backwards alongside it and he puts the box of the truck into the hoist post crumpling the ---- out of it. Another time he almost pushed a truck off a hoist by opening the bay door and having it hit the back of the truck and i got to witness a 5000lb vehicle slide off the hoist points and amazingly catch on ---- like the gas tank and the floor pan and whatever. He didnt get fired though because he's the bosses buddy.

One old fucker we had working there was pulling a engine once and he had it too far to one end of the hoist, so the engine and tranny came out and the car did a backflip off the hoist.

We had a lot of fun there though, i rember one unit overheated and welded itself together, and we were trying to pull it into the shop so we hooked up the tow rope and he got in the shop truck, tries to pull away... thing wont budge so he gives it a foot of slack and steps into it a little, still nothing, then about 5 minutes later hes got both tires billowing smoke, people are starting to pour out into the parking lot to see whats going on, i dont think they were suprised though we did a lot of stupid ---- like that.

And theres been more than one occasion ive had customers come in to pick up a car and i say "You'll just have to hold on one sec, the boss is just test driving a vehicle right now mam" only to have him pull into the parking lot and for example pull a epic 4 wheel burnout in his neighbours 3500chev diesel he just chipped, into the parking stall sideways, hop out with smoke pouring off the box and walk up to the customer who is waiting outside to pick up their car.

The worst event though was probably when i put a 350sbc into a late 80's blazer, it was nice too, anyways so i put a brand new shift kitted 700r4 into this thing with the motor, and as soon as im done the boss gets his hands on it, probably less than a hour later we were down one set of rear tires and one transmission, he pulled so many burnouts driving around to the other shops in the area and showing it off to the other guys that the unit burnt up and lost 3rd and 4th or something, im amazed the cops didnt get his ass for that one. It was almost embarrasing how much of a child that guy was though.

Anyways I eventually got fired for getting completely wasted on my birthday, then having a buddys front diff bind up or something in the parking lot infront of the shop at 3am by pure coincidence, so ofcourse we opened it up and i had him pull it onto the hoist, yanked the front driveshaft and then proceded to pull another epic burnout in this thing that melted ruts in the concrete floor and left little bits of rubber everywhere, and unfortunately he showed up like 5 hours later at 9am sunday morning for some reason. Needless to say he wasnt that impressed, now he probably almost would have let it go but i went just a little too far, its ZC though i was turning into way too much of a drunk at that place anyways.

My worst:

I was too lazy when I wanted to unload an f series engine. My engine hoist was burried at the other end of a 4 stall garage that was cluttered with palets of machined parts for work. I decided it would only take a second to carry the thing off the truck into the garage. I tripped and caught my hand under the crank pulley and on top of one of those palets. Snapped like a twig and needed 2 surgeries to put it back, still not perfect.

replace a distributor and not hook the connectors back up and wonder why the ---- the car isn't getting spark. :1 Did that ---- last night lol

Swapped out my camshaft once in my f22. I was so excited to get this bitch back up and running that after I put the timing belt on and all that stuff, I forgot to tighten the crank pulley on, I just put the bitch on. lol Or even worse, swap out cams and forget to tighten down the cam/gear bolt. :l

I accidentally sat on a jack stand and it pierced a hole in my right ass cheek that bled for a while, you can thank Ravage for that one

I was trying to take off the rear bushing carrier on the front lower LCA of my 94 Civic and the nut welded to the top of the crossmember broke off with the bolt seized. I said ---- it, replaced the other bushings, and welded the bolt to the carrier sos it wouldn't rattle around.
