What the fuck could cause this??

WEll my cars in the shop show im driving my buddys 98 gst for the day. I drop him off then park it at the house. Then I hop in to drive to the gas station and the thing just totally looses power (not electrical but hp). It starts going slow ass hell and feels like I'm riding a 10 hp gokart. Then when I stop at the light it cuts off, and everytime I press the clutch and the rpms fall it cuts off unless I give it some gas. I bring it home pop the hood and the radiator reservoir is bubbling like a motherefucker but the temp gauge says the car is straight. What the hell could be wrong???

check the exhaust for coolant, if its wet in there then it means you have a busted head gasket.

The other possibility is that the timing belt skipped a tooth.

timing belt

Sorry when I say wet, I mean it will have the smell of coolant. Some exhaust is just wet because its water :) You have to sniff your fingers after you rub it.

I'm thinking head gasket maybe. I looked under the car and the whole exhaust was steaming. How the hell would it just blow out like that though. I mean this came on out of no where. Who can I check and see if the belt skipped a tooth? I'm not going to rip the head off til he gets here. Can I still check it without taking the head off?

Just went out to check the stuff on the exhaust and that it wasnt antifreeze. It was OIL! It was making some knocking/vibrating sounds when it would get to 2500-3000 so maybe I should just start looking for holes in the block.

Do a compression check. I bet one of the pistons looks like an -------.

check the charge pipes...when one comes off on a dsm, they have about 4hp and run like ass...is there a cel?

Re:What the fuck could cause this??

I would if I had my stuff here. All my tools and things are at my old house. Cant get there without a car. I just started it up and it stays on but the rpms go up and down between 150 and 750. Still dont know.

nope no cel

Re:What the fuck could cause this??

check all the pipes though...when they blow off, the maf sees air going into the turbo, but the motor gets none of it. so the car runs hella rich and feels like it blew up. its happened to me many a time

Re:What the fuck could cause this??

how would that explain the barely staying on part though? The turbo doesnt push out barely any air at idle right?

turboboy 04-03-2004 04:59 PM

Re:What the fuck could cause this??

but the maf is still reading a different amount of air than the motor is seeing probably, just check the pipes to rule that out

Re:What the fuck could cause this??

Cool. Checked the pipes out and they are fine. Now the car starts and idles ok but still has no power and makes a decently loud rattling/knocking sound at 2700 and up. Any clues fellas?

1 or more piston(s) are FUCKED, check the fuel injectors.... check ignition: cap, rotor, plugs, wires... other than that, you got me stumped if its not that.. was oil ON the exhaust? or IN the exhaust?
