What exacty is break boosting?

ok i get the idea... i think. you hold the gas and break so you don't speed up, but you have boost for your launch? Right? i am going by my best guess here and i saw that video of the 500 hp civic and he kept breakboosting to beat v8's. just got my wondering what it is.

Re: What exacty is break boosting?

that's what i believe, instead of giving it partial gas to stay a certain speed, and only have like 1psi built up, you give it a good amount of throttle while pressing the brake to keep your speed in check with whoever you racing.

i believe this is pretty much just for racing from a roll.

people have been brake boosting for ever ... its not too bad on your brake's and yes it just build up boost so when you mash it and let off the brake your boost is already built up

When used with double clutching it can add 90mph to your trap speed.

I've heard of people setting their e-brake at the line and preloading the transmisission a little bit so it's not a sudden shock. I don't really know all that much about it but I wouldn't brake boost unless I was absolutely desperate to beat somebody.

And make sure you never let a v8 get the torque jump. :S The kid who made that video is a faggot ricer, look somewhere else to get your cool guy terminology. :-\

I agree with Whitey ;D. If the car was a 500 whp normal aspirated car, what would it be called ??? This type of driving happens frequently in rally racing and circuit racing. In most cases it is done by pressing the brake pedal with the left foot while applying gas with the right foot, aka left foot braking. It is just a way of keeping the engine's RPM within the power band range.

Preloading on the line is a very good idea. I do it and haven't broke an axle at the drag strip yet. I launch off the rev limiter too. :)

I also power shift (don't let off the gas) when I am in a close race or at the track. I have break boosted a few times when I was on the freeway and bored, but I don't do it that often.

i brake boost off the line (or try too, but the tires just spin).

stand on the brake, and give it some gas.. easier with an auto :P

yeah that thread turned into a big fight about how good of gas mileage a turbo fox body can get. i didn't bother reading it cuz it was so off topic, so i might have missed it. but the video was good. i always enjoy seeing a 4 cyl. beat v8s becuase of all the hard work that you know goes into that motor pays off in the end.

Is synchro-shift a real term? Ive heard that people shift w/o using the clutch. I have never tried it, probably wont, sounds bad. :3

lol its called floating the gears. its really easy and if your not stupid it is better on your clutch. it does make your sincros wear out faster but not a noticable amount.

So when do you shift? Does it matter?

When the RPMS of the two gears your moving between sort of match up, its kind of hard to explain, i used to do this on my brothers hatch SI. And easy way to find it is cruise in 3rd and just apply a little pull back on the shifter, it will slide out of 3rd, and just a slight pull towards 4th, and it should find its way in, if you hear grinding STOP!!!! sorry i know that was a terrible explaination... :S

I brake boost my superduty to 35psi in 4wheel drive and let her go off the line, it twists and growns like something going to explode but I think it loves it. It launchs ------- hard for a one ton truck, still spins the tires if it dosn't hook though :6

My CRX see's nice 5500rpm 3rd gear break-boosting before freeway run's often. It's how we do it in the 360.
