What car should I get?
 

I know this seems a bit early, but next year is when I start college. My mom believes I need a "dependable car" for next year, running to Pittsburgh and back twice a week, and whereever else I go. She's willing to co-sign a loan for me for up to $10,000. I, of course, have to pay every cent of this loan, but I was wondering what you guys think I should get. I've had a few cars running around in my mind.. but I need something with decent gas mileage (28 MPG or so), reasonably quick, and something that looks nice.

Shoot out some ideas, I'd like to think about this before I even start to go and look for cars. Open for any/all ideas, let's hear them ;D

i would look at getting the cheapest thing possible, not spending every dime of that 10G. you could find a really nice honda for under 6G probably with a swap, and it would get you good mileage, be fast, and look good. so yeah, what warric_k said...

I'd get a DC2 (integra) for sure, they ride nice, handle well and have several options for upgrades. Bet you could find a pretty decent GSR for under 10 grand. What ever car you do decide to get be sure to get one that hasnt been fucked with.

Buy a crx/civic cash and screw the loan. Loans are about the worse thing a young person can do in my opinion.

get a stock car, 94+teg or ek (96+ civic).

I might be getting a 96 dx HB for $3500cdn, you would have like 7+g to get it tip top.

Sorry guys that I have to say this, but I would not recomend getting a Honda. Two reasons:
1. I'm a sophomre in college and tried to get all my ---- from Atlanta to Tallahassee and it was impossible with my car. I ended up driving around in my family's utility vihicle the whole year. A peice of ---- 1992 toyata previa. Thats a van for those who dont know. Take it from somebody who experienced it; you will kick yourself in the ass for getting a small car. Go out and get mid 90's jeep cherokee. They are realiable and the girls LOVE cars they can bring friends around in. ;)

2. You're gonna be in college. College costs a lot of money, you will soon find this out....there are hiddend costs in everything. Even if you did get a Honda, your not going to have any ------- money to put in that car. Maybe if you dont eat for a month.

I'm not trying to get any flack here. I'm just trying to give good advice.

buying some V8 right now with gas as bad as it is would be ------- stupid on a collage budget. i was able to get everything i NEEDED in my civic its just too bad you can live without all your ----. plus insureance on that thing will be high being a teen. might as well get a 4 dr civic, good gas mileage and plenty of room.

Never said he should get a V8, I said a mid 90's jeep cherokee. (They make a V6). And if you are able to get all the stuff for your kit while in college....cool.

I do agree that a four door could be the way to go.

And about me being able to live without all my ----....there is nothing better knowing my car is safe and sound INSIDE my garage back home where it wont get stollen, trashed, weathered all over, and have miles put on it. The sun in Florida sucks. I would rather drive around some pile of ---- than have my baby ruined. :-\

Acually the cherokee has a strait six, but gets the gas milage of a v8. The real early ones(83ish) had a carbed v6 and if your suggesting he should get that, you should kill your self. If you need more room get a teggy. I you would be supprized how much ---- I can pack in the wifes ;)

What do you guys think about an Insight? I don't think they're the greatest looking car ever, but can't beat 70+ MPG.. not to mention I haven't heard about any major problems with them. Of course, this would be my DD.. I still want to do a CR or Civic drag car project ;D

I dont think an insight is all that bad of a car. its obvious the car is designed for gas milage, and I think people who own them are wise.

have an insight for your DD and a CRX as your drag car or your "toy"

haha nice one boost...i have a 99 jeep wrangler with the I6 and get about 15mpg...its sucks. get an si hatch. they have the a6 which is a good motor and they get could mileage.

If you wanna get the insight that's cool, good to know you are thinking money wise, but why not get the civic hybrid 4-dr. It could still be made to look pimp. Then again it'd be cool to have a pimped out insight. :P

I'm thinking an Insight, and (ED/EF) Si Civic or CRX, an Integra, an EK civic, I've got a million ideas running around in my mind. Thank God I have 365 days to think about this :-X

I'm seriosly considering a Scion.. They're pretty cool looking, seem to run decent, all around cool as far as I can tell..

If you gonna buy a commuter car, don't buy someting you WILL end up modifying, cause then it will defeat the whole purpose of you buying a nice reliable car to go home and school. I'm not saying that you can't modify a car and have it run great like it was factory, but you will be pushing it a good amount. Then again don't get something too slow, you'll hate it and want to modify it, but if you do chose a slow one, make sure it's a something you can just ...cruise... in 8)

do not get a jeep cherokee, those things are the biggest piles of ----. Wranglers are fun if you go rock climbing or need a 4x4 that isn't heavy as ----.

I wouldn't get a civic either, they are ------- death traps. If you must get a honda, go find a nice low milage 4g/5g accord.. or even 92-96 prelude.

If you want something big and safe then go get a chevy tahoe, or a nice late 90s Z71 truck.

get a festiva and drop a B6t(Mazda 323 GTX) motor in it. I'd say maybe even a metro wagon. How bout a 4x4 Conv. Geo Tracker. I had one and they can take one hell of a beating. That whole thing about them rolling easily is a crock of ----. Man I drove mine up hills and down ditches and took that thing offroad all the time and there not bad on gas with having a 4 cyl. too.
