Well well well, a bit of a decision.

I have a 91 Civic Si and a 79 El Camino SS. I am at the point now where I really don't know which car to mod. The Civic will be my daily driver (usually ride with my GF to and from school, so I rarely drive it). The El Camino was my grandfathers so it's just not going anywhere. I can't decide which car to mod. I drive the Civic more ofter and it's a stick, the El Camino is just classic and is a auto.

The El Camino has a 350 crate engine putting out 230hp (I believe). The rest is stock (besides the redone interior).

The Civic has the following:
97 D16Y8
JE SRP 10.5:1 c/r pistons
Eagle H beam rods
DC 4-2-1 header
Akimoto Short Ram
Exel racing rims
Header back 2.5" exhaust
Morroso plug wires
MSD external coil
XTD stage 2 clutch

Parts for the Civic not installed:
OBD0>OBD1 jumper harness
P28 chipped and data cable
OBD2 Dizzy
AiResearch .42/.48 T3 (internal wastegated)
Downpipe
SpoolingPerformance log style manifold
DSM side mount IC

Before I could go turbo I would still need injectors, wideband, BOV, and IC piping. On the other hand V8's can make a lot of power "cheap". What would you guys do? I really can't decide. If I do fix up the El Camino the parts I have for the Civic will be sold and motor sold (install a stock motor). So that will fund the El Camino.

Civic. Im not a fan of el-caminos. Not only that, when the el camino would be done, you couldnt afford to drive the beast anyways with gas being 2 and 1/2 bucks a gallon.

Civics are a dime a dozen. This time I'm going with the el co.

I think I might just turbo the Civic while I'm in college. Then after college start a build up on the Elky

thats pretty high compression too tho on the civic. before you turbo it, are you gonna put different pistons in?

A 79 Camino is a classic in the same breathe as a Pacer is a classic.

How is a El Camino not a classic? What do you consider classic?

El Camino all the way... mod that and drive the Civic daily, relationships dont always last...

I was just saying that I don't drive the Civic everyday so downtime for modding it ok

Honestly, I would take the El Camino over the Civic... If anything, throw I/H/E on the El Camino and run like that for a while... still quick

what would the old man want you to do?

I would keep the elco as nice as possible for him, and run the ---- out of the civic.

Re: Well well well, a bit of a decision.

I am keeping the Elky since it was my grandfathers. Ok heres the story:

My grandfather had an 79 El Camino that he fully restored. So my dad gets a 80 El Camino also. Drove it for quite a long time. When I turned 16 we still had the Elky, a Van, and a Taurus. I found a Civic HB and bout it. Guy lied and it was a POS about to quit. So under the law we had 30 days and we got our money back. Then I said screw it I'll take the Elky.

Now while this is going on my grandfather was having his motor taken out. He had a vette engine in his. It used to much gas so he went to GM and bought a brand new crate engine. Since he had no need for the engine he gave it to us. Ours had the 6cyl in it. So we got the vette engine in. Well with it being a 80 model it needed restoring. So a guy we knew painted it for me. I had it back a few months and I was going to the car wash. There was a socket set in the back and when I took a turn it come open, naturally I turn around to see what it was. It had rained and when my tire went off the shoulder I went down into a 10ft ditch. No damage was done. Tow truck comes and rips the whole side up and a tree.... end of that

Well my grandfather passed away a little after this. Instead of giving the car to my Dad his step mom sold it to her son in laws brothers kid. Well his stupid wife backs it into something and puts a huge dent in the tailgate. Well my dad then passed away. I notice the car at a local title loan place. I turn 21 and my mom goes down and gets the car for me for my birthday.

Whoever had it took the full flowmaster exhaust system off. Put two glass packs, wired up with coat hangers, and open under the the car (right under the seats). The motor is smoking and leaking. The door panel trim is ripped off. And there is rust spots. Keep in mind this was a fully restored car previously.

So now that I got it this car is not going anywhere. Our local community college teaches auto body classes. So instead of paying to have it painted I will probably pay for the class and paint it my self later on. Right now I'm going to just stop the rust ( not really bad, just some surface rust). After college when I get enough money saved up I am going to pull to engine and do a rebuild. Forged internals of course. Since it's carbed I will probably build it for high comression and nitrous.

Anyways, thats the story. Sorry for it being so long. I guess some people didn't understand why I even wanted the Elky.
