Well the Kia finally made it to the showroom.

http://www.performancekia.com/vehicl...Make&page=next

After several months of finally getting the thing to run right last week it made it to the showroom floor. What has gone wrong?

- Clutch burnt out (replaced with 6puk Clutch specialities)
- DSM injectors would not seal in the Bungs, replaced with Chysler 2.2l injectors
- Mass air flow took a ----, Then needed to be relocated (inline of the airflow to keep the CEL off!)
- TPS broke
- I put the o2 sensor in a bad spot, because after I put the new clutch in, the engine was moving all around (soft mounts) in the engine bay and the o2 broke in half on the cross member.
- LF Axle took a ----
- SDS lost 1 output to the injectors
- 2.5in E-Cut out dead, motor no longer works

And my favorite... I let the owners son drive the turbo kia to school one day to show his friends. He ends up getting a 350 dollar ticket for speeding and improper passing haha. But right after that he goes "Man the clutch really feels funny?"

So I checked it out and whadda ya know, Got Crankwalk? The thrust bearings came apart at 10psi after 2 weeks of driving. So a new shortblock was put in (under warranty of course) ;) Boost down to 4-5psi and is now finally sitting on our showroom floor!!

Curious if they will ever sell this piece of ---- now, this was by far the shittiest project I have ever done and I will never do another one.

Damn, I've got to do a DIY of the month together on this thing. I never thought StealthmodePerformance would ever make it to a window sticker at a dealership. lol

Re: We'll the Kia finally made it to the showroom.

sounds like the clutch killed the thrust bearing.

or just the gayness of the kia block. The pressure plate is what would put pressure on the thrust bearings, not the clutch- fyi.

Nice work Jeff, I'm digging the window sticker, sucks about all the problems though.

Re: We'll the Kia finally made it to the showroom.

lol i bet it rusts out in the showroom before anyone buys it. Its not like kia dealerships draw the crowd that would even know what half the ---- on that sticker means. still digging the work though jeff, its tough to make ---- clean enough to sell at a dealership i bet.

HMT-Admin 07-07-2005 05:25 PM

Re: We'll the Kia finally made it to the showroom.

hmm thats werid, the link changed for some reason..? I updated it

The pressure plate is OE painted black ;) aka "heavy duty" as Clutch specialities calls them with a 6puk sprung disc. The thrust bearings are really thin/small on these blocks so I'd assume this will probably happen again.

asking price is 13,900 and no Warranty. I'm thinking she'll be on the showroom for awhile. Tons of people look at it everyday though.

The majority of Muscle cars were built just to sit in the showroom to bring people in. So even if it does fall apart, you've done your job ;)

i think he said something to his boss about how they're called performance kia, but yet, they have nothing "performance" wise on their lot. so he was given a chunk of change to go to town on a base model. ;) ...or something to that extent.

she looks so beautifull sitting there...

that will definitely attract some people though..

Actually it has nothing to do with that. I was bored one day and hardly making any money so I made up a quick bid on a couple used spectras and rios on our lot for HMT style turbokits and he said "sure why the hell not"... My boss (now the general manager) is probably one of the coolest bosses around, everyone in the dealership loves him. He's a very fair person and has brought me a very long way in that company.

Hows it run? it runs ok, it felt pretty decent when it was at 10psi, but the 5psi is pretty lameo, probably about the same speed as a stock gsr. It's good for 2nd gear burnouts though ;)

we have very little engine problems with all the kia 4 cylinders. It's mainly the v6's

I guess the kia engineers have been spending too much time copying Mitsubishi :-\ Its awesome that your boss lets you plug the site too, especially with the kia in the showroom
