Sexual side effects is definately something you will have to watch out for. Main thing is to watch out for signs of mania--racing thoughts, staying up late cleaning up doing things, having lots of energy, bouncing off the walls literally, etc. Also watch out for signs of suicide. Within the first couple of weeks you'll get more energy and bounce out of your down state and can actually start thinking of committing suicide... have someone you trust and nearby so you can call on them.

Withdrawal symptoms wont occur as much with Prozac but will occur especially with Paxil, due to its short half-life. If you dont see significant change in mood in about 4 weeks or so, the doc may try to increase your dosage and then afterwards possibly switch you over to a different SSRI. I'd ask for Lexapro, Wellbutrin, or Zoloft since Paxil is more of a deactivating drug and will make you sleep more. As a side note, take your medication every day. You wont feel the effects of it until later. Remember its not like morphine or pain killers where it kicks in the instant its in your system, it takes a long time...

Well stay in there buddy. I've seen my fair share of depressed people and my heart goes out to them... Its hard but stick with it. My advice is get off the damn internet and try to become as social as possible, not talking about being sleeping around, but go out and become more active... aka snowboarding, jogging, etc. Exercise does wonders. Also try to get into a support group, thats if you dont have social phobia.

Good luck.

Do you mean you've never been depressed, or you never experienced depression manifesting like that? I good and damn well know when I'm depressed. If you don't, maybe you have something else wrong with you. It's actually nice for a week or two, lot of alone time with myself. When it drags on I force myself to go out and get drunk with people, even when I don't want to. At some point I perk up enough to have a good time, sometimes takes two or three outings to snap myself out of it.

SSRI's are wierd. The roomie swears by Lexapro, she's undergoing seasonal affect disorder right now (short days, not enough sunlight) and started chewing it up last week. Claims she'll feel human by the beginning of March. Adi's already been down that road a bunch, and went through a LOT of the SSRI's before she found stuff that didn't ---- her up more than it helped.

Personally, I like the elevated dopamine levels associated with speed. Absolutely kills off my desire to drink, which is sad because I liked being an alcoholic, but I suppose it's all for the best.

i was depressed last week. but, you can make yourself do something, i got tired of being in "limp mode" and just do what i do.

Hope the prozac helps you. I'm not a fan of this "modern" medicine.

I can say I tottally know your feeling man, I have pretty bad anxiety, never did before, just kinda hit me one day a few months ago.....I have a hard time all the time....just get anxiety about nothing at all, its really weird....Ive allways been a totally normal guy and now I can just get a panic attack out of nowhere....The doc gave me prozac and xanax, I just use the xanax when I need to and it helps a ---- load.....I was depressed at the time and the thought of a drug that could make me suicidal just didnt fly so I never took it....Hopefully you get it all worked out man, just like everyone said, make sure you have someone you can call anytime you need help. And you NEED to do things, stay busy as much as you can and it will help out a lot.

on paxil here, been a couple years. Drugs are good I had social anxiety prety bad, took care of it pretty good. Only problem I have now is with impulse spending and about 20# of weight gain.
As far as sexual side effects I wouldn't even give them a worry unless you had problems before, I found the side effects to be pretty cool. You can where a chick out if you want

Try to keep the time you are on this prescription to a minimum.Becoming dependant and addicted to pills will only make things worse.Personally I dont believe in taking pills to fix personal issues but if you feel this is the answer then I hope it works out for you.I get depressed some times to but that is just part of life and i just work on fixing the things that are makiing me feel down.Life is not always a idealic happy place you need to be gratefull for how good your life really is.Good luck

Do you call four second attention span, chronic insomnia, and social apathy a personal problem? If so, you really wouldn't like my "I'm taking amphetamines" thread.

I'm taking 10 mg around 7-9 am, 5 mg 2-3pm, and 5mg before bed. Doc said 10 mg twice daily, but large afternoon dose makes me incoherent. If I had to stay up late for *any* reason I was having problems with "jitters" from resuming my normal state of cracked out, I couldn't sleep, and I felt emotionally brittle... so now I'm chowing on the stuff to ZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz.

Been hitting on the new redhead @ work. Had an ex come in to see me when I was sitting next to the redhead at the bar, having a drink after shift, and felt smooth enough to get her to sit with us. Played it off perfectly. Hah. Good ----.
