well, I did it already!!!!

i blew an apex seal in my rx7 yesterday on my way home from school......its sucks! i only got to drive the car for 2 days. now i dont have a choice but to fix my hatch, and then pull the engine in the rx7 and rebuild it. but on the brite side of things, now i can street or bridge port it an make some good horsepower...........oh well. thought id share since its the first motor i have toasted since ive been driving cars lol! >:D

ems? im still new and still reading and i dont know what that means lol....

and i was driving casually coming up to a light doing about 40 got on the brakes because the people in front of me were stopped and started rolling, i was in fifth, went down to 4th, then down to third, coasted a bit, got back into throttle slowly, got some momentum going and pop!!!! goodbye all power :3

i got the hatch back up and going but im also putting an exhaust on to quite the bitch down. gotta finish it tomorrow. running out of time before work.

but the rx7 runs on one rotor :P i had to drive it about a half mile to get home. sounds like a damn lawn mower :S

that sucks. hope you have or can get ahold of a torque multiplier. the main nut the get the case open on a rotary is a ------- trooper.

the one on the flywheel is easy. they can pound on the main pully bolt all they want, it wont come off from an impact at the tireshop. i know, cus i have one.

use a 20 foot pole and a couple wrenches. 1/2 inch socket will work. expect to break some wrenches taking it off
its torqued on there tighter than a nuns ----
and they simply slap a ---- ton of thread locker on there. it wont come off easy.

figures :X

well since you chimed in kain, what do you think i should do port wise? im just hoping i didnt ---- up the rear case for the rotor by driving it that half mile home :'( im thinkin about grabbing the 12a out of the rx7 at the junkyard, but i think i can just strip it of its apex seals instead!!

------- rotaries cost to much :P oh well, a price to pay to have a 150-200 hp 1.2 liter.................hehe

technically its not a 1.2l

yeah there is a big fuss about that as well when it comes down to racing brackets and ----. they classify it as a 2.4 liter engine even though spec sheets and repair manuals say its 1.2l, but i cant complain. it pulled like a champ and shifting to second could chirp the lsd diff and keep on hauling. itll be better though once i get done with it.

i like you already!!! anyways, im still true to the v8 side of things and the 4 banger imports as well. still own and dd my honda, me and my dad work on his nova with my engine in it right now. and i have the built lt1 350 still just collecting dust until we can see if we can blow the stock block 350 in the nova having fun with the spooled rearend. hehe, i got to many fun/project cars..........

Re: well, I did it already!!!!

yeah i know what you mean, i have my dd honda, i work on my friends imca racecar for him, and i used to love ------- around with my rx7 till i blew my ---- up and decided it was a bigger money trap than i could afford. i miss it, but its something i dont regrett at all. I got so many people who just looked at me like i was a complete idiot when i would tell them my motor doesnt even have piston or rods.

Re: well, I did it already!!!!

well, i pulled the motor out and set it to the side. its lighter than i thought and damn the trans is like a piece of cake on the damn thing, just weird it not having a separable bell housing!? but over all i've almost completely stripped the engine bay of everything. now that i have a new project and parts on the way i think im going to be a lot more satisfied with the car when im finished. should be back up and running full strength by the end of may. im still debating though to add some laughing gas to it for shits and giggles, or to possibly kill myself in doing so. only 3 peeps from HMT knows the lowdown. if none of you can figure it out i shall kill all!!!!

kain 04-27-2008 11:35 AM

Re: well, I did it already!!!!

ha ha ha.

well... if it ran on one rotor, than you can re use one rotor. the housing will be seriously too old for any good.

12a's tend to last longer cus the apex seal is shorter in length than the 13b's. this means they tend to not break as much. thats why mazda came out with the renesis. the figured that hey, lets put the exhaust orts on the side and see where that goes. what do you know, less stress on the apex seals.

pm me if you want any more help man.

also, you dont really damage it the more you use it. if you blew an apex seal, all the damage is done till it ejects the seal. in some cases, the seal gets ejected, it will bounce off the exhaust manifold ( if the stock one is still there ) and come flying back into the other rotor blowing that one too.

also, heat and carbon build up tend to be the culprit in blown engines. dont be surprised if you find a ---- ton of carbon gunked on there.
