Welding experts....
Anyone here use one of those kits to convert a flux welder to use gas? I know you have to reverse the polarity but there's no provisions on my welder to do that. Can i just reverse the cables connections or is there more to it than that?

Re: Welding experts....
That's all it is.

Re: Welding experts....
if its a cheap ebay flux core mig, then your fucked. you cant convert those to gas
|
Re: Welding experts....
secondly why the ---- would you need to reverse the polarity, thaTS ONLY IF YOU ARE welding aluminum. gas is just a different method of shielding the welding wire.

Re: Welding experts....
My welder is a mig, but the instructions says it can be used as a flux core if you reverse the polarity, ie change the wires over, thats all it is

Re: Welding experts....
Mint so after i get this thing all setup i'll finally have some nicer pipes O0

Re: Welding experts....
you have to change the filler wire too, I tried using flux wire w/gas and it was slightly better but it needs to go!

Re: Welding experts....
I thought you used ac to weld aluminum?
|
Re: Welding experts....
it might require buying the tig torch as well. not too expensie, but will hook right into your welder and gas bottle.
|
Re: Welding experts....
no, not switching polarity as in AC/DC but as in Direct Current Electrode Negative (DCEN) and Direct Curent Electrode Positive (DCEP). Shielded gas uses DCEP and shielded wire uses DCEN.

Re: Welding experts....
no, because if you switch to the torch and take out the wire, its the same stuff.

Re: Welding experts....
I thought you used sheilding gas on both dcen and dcep? I'm totally confused now...
|
Re: Welding experts....
dcep is when the flow or direction of the arc goes from the work being welded to the electrode. dcep is used with stick welders. the electrode is going to be consumed on this setting.
dcen flows from the electode to the work being welded. best for when you want to weld with a non-consubable electrode like tig welding. gas is just a way to shield like hotrex said. most migs can use co2 "I thought you used sheilding gas on both dcen and dcep? I'm totally confused now... " you' re right |
Re: Welding experts....
UMMMM you can't convert a mig to a tig
