webserver at home ?
 

Anyone runing their own web server at home ? If so what kind of provider are you using and how much are paying for your service. Rigth now I'm with comcast, but they don't allow any game server hosting or web hosting, so I wanna start looking at other option.

i do it with road runner and they down "allow it" but id ont give a ---- :-* i run apache

comcast doesnt care what the ---- you do. i have ran soo many servers and they never did anything. as far as i knpow, comcast will let you do everythingyou want with your internet.

However Comcast upload speeds with cable is incredibly slow and I'm pretty certain that almost all comcast acounts are dynmaic ips which make running a webserver pointless.

HMT use to be run on Qwest Business DSL Line 1meg up/down with static IP's it was around 120ish a month to run.

You can run no-ip to reslove ur address back to the machine...
120$ is cheap for a 1mb up and down
here in the uk ur looking for 170£ atleast :(

Run apach
or install windows 2003 server on the box.

thats why you get a dynamic domain server like dyndns

I thought or read somewhere that comcast filter port 80 or 8080 to drop whatever traffic going to your server, preveting people to do anything. hum, maybe I should just go ahead do it and see what's going to happen.
Anyway I'll be runing apache on slackware or maybe on redhat enterprise v4, not sure yet.
